Wrapping bars in leather, is regular tape more comfortable, shock absorbent?

I've seen people wrap their bars in just leather, not leather bar tape and was wondering how comfortable it is? Is there regular bar tape underneath for shock absorption? I've also seen Cinelli shock absorbers and was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of this?

    Thanks for your help,

    -P

I use the 2.5mm fizik stuff. I don't like squishy handlebars.

I don't know why one would wrap their bars in plain leather, I love my brooks leather bar tape though! It is on my Mikkelsen and Lynskey.

I have found the combination of carbon everything on my bike and my chosen riding locations require very little shock absorption beyond the stem... I use the Fizik 1.8 for that reason. As was said above, it is nice to have a positive grip on the bars.

I'm a weirdo who wrapped his bars in old innertube, then counter-wrapped it with cork tape. My bars now absorb shock without being "squishy", while having the nice grip of cork.
