Thoughts on Reynolds 531 Pro tubing?
 

Has anyone ridden these tubes before? If so, what were your thoughts? Thanks!

It's the same thing as Reynolds 753 as far as composition, wall thickness, etc. but unlike 753, it's not heat treated so the tensile strength is lower. Like 753, the tubing is quite light and not recommended for heavy riders. It can make a very nice frame for the right rider.

It is a mixed tube set consisting of both 531 and the very strong and light 753. I think the 531 parts were the thinner SL variety, not sure. I don't know what parts are what. There is nothing about your size and weight that would preclude using this tubing. I have never ridden it, but 753 would be the weak link (not weakness per se but thinness, crash resistance, dent resistance, etc.), but I have never read any negative reports. BTW, you can search this on the Reynolds web site. They have a comprehensive history/glossary.

EDIT: According to the information posted on the Reynolds site for the particular 531 Professional decal, it is all 531SL except the rear stays which are 753. I don't think 531SL was as thin as 753, so the former is not the same as latter just without heat treating.

Good find. So the 531SL was as thin as 753, just not as strong. Interesting. Assuming the alloys were the same, then your comment about the SL being the same as 753 jut not heat treated was correct. My bad.
