    Bike's ready . . . and here's the forecast

I made the mistake of getting the road bike down, cleaning, lubing, new tires, ready to rock. The last two days (when I've been on-call and can't really ride) have been 40s and sunny but kinda windy. Roads look great. So tomorrow I'm off and have the whole day to ride, so what's the forecast:

Blizzard Warning: High winds and freezing rain followed by bitter cold and 6-10" inches of snow making travel extremely hazardous.

But in all seriousness, that's not a fun situation. I'm usually relegated to just being able to ride Sundays, so I've since started riding in stuff that I normally might avoid. I can't really ride until May this year though. Our weather here lately has been short sleeve jersey weather, but the winds are howling horrendously hard. I had an interesting weather encounter the other day, but it doesn't involve a bike or riding or anything.

That looks like my ride last Saturday. Beautiful conditions on the way out. Turned around to a head wind and it started to snow, last 10 km in white out conditions in the middle of nowhere.

I feel for you, Clausen, you have such a long winter compared to us and I already have cabin fever.

I've still got the winter bike complete with studded tires, so snow and ice won't stop me, but 30 mph winds and expected zero visibility could make it tough going. I don't mind winter riding. I actually enjoy it through the end of February, then it gets kind of old.

Depending where you are in Minnesota you may be further north then I am. It's only been a week where it's warmed up enough during the day and the roads in decent enough shape to ride on. Still lots of sand/salt/wet. Did 2 1/2 hours yesterday in freezing temps and North wind. Today the plan is for 3 hours just a tad warmer but the wind is still there.

Guess it is too soon to head home. Three feet on the ground at my house.

Once again I'm impressed by those of you who are riders in a place that has an actual winter. I take year round riding for granted and I need to remember how nice it truly is. Fight the good fight you guys and ride on.

    ...... just being a smartass.

That sucks. Pretty cruddy here too- lots of rain. I take solace in the fact that we are FINALLY getting some snow in the mountains and the skiing is great right now. But I could sure use a good ride.

I just moved my fenders over to my new rain bike, so it's more or less ready to go. I don't set out to ride in the rain but I'll take my chances as long as it's not imminent.

    Hope your weather turns soon'

I lived in Portland, Oregon for a long time and REALLY love that town, but the cold and rain just got old after 20 years.
I sold all my stuff and packed my Subaru and moved to Florida.
I was single, with no kids, so that was instrumental, but the weather is great for riding, although it's all flat.
If some of you are REALLY serious about riding, you need to move out of the north.
I know if I lived in Minnesota or Wisconsin, I'd be seriously into nordic skiing. Healthy, fun and gear intensive.

I thought by now global warming meant year round riding for everyone. Guess not
You're just trying to start an argument to show how smart you are.
