Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Donation to make- Bike related

My fiancé and I decided instead of doing wedding presents for our guest we're each going to make a large donation in each guest name. I am a avid cyclist that races and wanted to choose a bike related organization/team or company to make the donation to. I have thought of Bikes not bombs which is located in Ma where I live but I also wanted to see if anyone has any other suggestions of places where we could make the donation

thanks

Wouldn't it make more sense to make donations to causes your guests care about instead of your own.

Why don't you flip it around and ask them to donate to your preferred charity instead of buying wedding presents for you?

Wounded Warrior Project is somewhat bike related - I did a ride with them a few weeks ago as a ride marshall. Wounded Warrior Project - Wounded Warrior Project

My fiancee is donating her portion to The Wounded Warrior Project. We just figured why not donate something instead of buying everyone a table item that they will end up losing, breaking or throwing away.

Another Wounded Warrior Project vote here, their bicycling programs are successful for many of the wounded vets that have participated in them and they are legit about things. Since you fiance has chosen the WWP maybe the others would like to do the same:

One time donation page: https://support.woundedwarriorprojec...FWdk7Aod2jAAnw

As TrojanHorse posted too, Wounded Warrior Project Home Page: Wounded Warrior Project - Wounded Warrior Project

Congrats on your upcoming nuptials, sounds like you both have your heads on right, well done on your actions no matter the charity chosen.

Bill

Bikes not Bombs gets my vote. And have guests donate to your participation in the Bike-A-Thon in lieu of gifts!

Here you go: The School for Creative Studies

This is a school that has just created a cycling team and is seeking donations and sponsors to grow the program and get more kids riding and racing bicycles. They have practices every week and the kids have already done a couple of races this year. The school administrators and teachers are very supportive, as are the parents of the students participating in the program.

Here is more info on the program: SCS Cycling Team receives $10,000 worth of donated bikes ? Durham Public Schools.

World Bicycle Relief - USA

$134 gives a person a bike that will change their life, and improve life in their community.

I've made the pitch on here that every time you buy an expensive bike, consider buying two, one for yourself, and one for World Bicycle Relief.

Given I bought a new MTB friday, it's time for me to put my moey where my mouth is.
