    Crankset : MegaExo or Not

I just bought a used frame that is coming this week. The frame has MegaExo BB already installed.
I already have Shimano 105 crankset 53/39. I understand I cannot use it with MegaExo BB. But I am planning to replace 53/39 with 50/34 anyway later this year.

Here is my question: Should I stick with MegaExo system and buy 50/34 FSA crankset, or replace the BB no the frame to let say Ultegra and use my own crankset until I got Shimano replacement?

I have read a mixed reviews about MegaExo, some are not happy with it. Please share your experience if you have one, THANKS!!!!!

Some MegaExo BBs are compatible with Shimano, so this one may work fine. (The ones for carbon chainsets are not compatible) On the otherhand Shimano BBs are so cheap you shouldn't let the fact that you already have an FSA BB influence your choice of chainset. I have bikes with MegaExo, Shimano and GXP outboard bearings and to be honest, they're all much of a muchness.

The person who sold me the frame said it will not work, but I would not know until I get the package.

The BBs are not expensive, but because I am going to buy new crankset, and I have used nothing but Shimano, I thought maybe there is a better option

It makes sense to get your Shimano outboard bearing bottom bracket now for your 105 crank. It will continue to serve you when you change to a different Shimano crank. I use only MegaExo BBs but only with FSA cranks and they are fine, but if you want Shimano for a crank, go Shimano all the way. Don't try to make fit what won't.

Get the Shimano BB. FSA puts out so many different types of BBs- that are all just a bit different - that's it's a pain in the ass. A Shimano Hollowtech II BB is a Shimano Hollowtech II BB. You can mix and match any level of crankset with any level of BB as long as they're both Hollowtech II.

The Shimano crankset will shift better than the FSA one, too.

    IMO it's a no-brainer.

Thanks, I did not have any experience with Mega Exo, it is good I asked I thought I need to buy new BB, but just found an old one, it runs ok, so will have to spend $0 until ready to replace crankset ! ))

    This is good advice.
