I need to ride more, my left hip needs to be replaced. The onlytime I am pain free is 30 minutes and on into a ride.

No good, surgeonstone. The only thing worse than getting old, is not getting old.

why do i do this? someone please 'splain it to me...
two years ago i talk myself into buying the "dream bike" with the rationale i won't spend this many thousands for several years....then i spend more thousands on continuous upgrades for questionable at best motivations....then i see something and decide it's time to buy a second dream bike (as in the other dream bike i was considering in the first place)...and find myself fully several steps down that path already, with many thousands yet to be spent....
is there a name for this "-osis" and am i doomed to do this yet again?

Remember the late 70's/early 80's moped craze? All the cool kids had these and mostly due to one that had been modified by some speed crazed dad everyone thought the red ones were the fastest.
I still covet one a little bit. Wasn't something I or my family could afford at the time.

I'm suffering from a similar problem with photography. I'm considering spending an obscene amount of money on a camera body, and I'm struggling to find a concrete reason not to.

These are not "dream bikes", they are alters to the bike gods. So you may have built an alter that some of the bike gods love. But that love has angered the other bike gods, so you must make afresh an alter to those gods, lest they smite you with poor yaw angles. Only through a sufficient offering may you continue to please them all.
But remember that your spouse is not a bike god, but more of a stormy, I will wreck your entire ****ing world kind of god, and the alters, though grand, must stay out of that ire.

Had a nice 37 mi ride today, putting me just over 100 mi for the week.
Tomorrow is my last big training ride before my climbing century. We are riding from our valley over a (not very big) mountain into the next valley to see some poppies. It will be about 25ish miles pretty relentlessly uphill, mostly not too steep maybe 3-4% but a few nasty steep bits including a 1/4 mi stretch of 15% grade (or so I hear, I've never done this route). Then noodling around looking at poppies, then back over the mountain, up another little climb to the next canyon over and then a great 25 mi downhill to get home. Overall, it should be something like 80-85 miles and 5800-6000 ft of climbing. We have organized a little SAG stop amongst the poppies and I made homemade granola bars for the occasion. Wish me luck, this will be a tough ride for me. I am very much looking forward to it.
I will post pics if I get any good ones.
