Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Correct. And it won't be April 1st on the West Coast for a few more hours.

You'd need one of these to use them properly.

Friday, weather permitting, is our first sail trip of the year.

National weather service marine forecast: Fri NW winds 5-15 kt. Wind waves 2 ft or less. Mixed swell W 2 to 4 ft and SW 2 ft.

That is frequently wrong and still very much subject to change. But right now it's good. We will be heading almost due south, from our home port of Marina del Rey to Isthmus Cove on Catalina Island, a 30 mile passage. At the Isthmus, there is one bar, one restaurant, one store and very few choices to make. We can hike to the north or to the south. I want to head south and then down to Little Harbor and take the bus back from there. The wildflowers could be beautiful up that way since we've just had rain.

Happy about it, hope the weather does not turn sour on us.

...y'know the biggest problem with tri ? It's all the painful aero positioning stuff that gets hung on the bikes because you can't draft.

Honest to god, if I had to ride that way all the time I'd just get off one day and kill myself. #no_joy

This is even better:

"Fri W to NW winds 10 to 15 kt. Wind waves 2 ft. Mixed swell W 2 to 4 ft and SW 2 ft."

As in 10-15 kt winds are even better than 5-15kt winds. And W winds are even better than NW winds.

You can't throw that whole doctor thing out the window and teach English or be a tour guide?

Would that really be a good use of the investment he has made thus far into his training & education? I am talking not just $ investment but time. Sure, if Ruokie is unhappy as a physician or even partially-happy-but-greater-than-50%-unhappy, maybe doing something different makes sense. But it may be impractical to throw 12-15 years of education out the window.

Unless he moves to Japan to teach at a medical school there, that might be an idea. But could be impossible, I don't know.

I asked them not to post it. So, it's not my fault.
