10K Miles
Some people around here get to 10K miles in a year or less, but it took me five years after being diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer back in March of 2009. Despite 5 major surgeries and more than 60 rounds of chemo, I kept riding. Sometimes I think that's the only reason I'm still here. Still on chemo and while my prognosis isn't good, it wasn't good 5 years ago. So, I just keep riding and taking care of my health. I let the doctors worry about treating the disease.
Anyway, last night's 31-mile, hilly ride put me over the 10K mark, and here's what it looked like. Probably half of those miles were logged on the Klein--the frame I bought from Grumpy McTrumpy after my first (of three) lung surgery. Nice frame to hang a Psimet wheel set on, don't you think?

Congrats on the milestone, that is a huge accomplishment with everything your body has been subjected to with the medical issues, plus Klein's are always cool bikes

WAY TO GO! You should come down to Miami in February for the Dolphin's Cycling Challenge with it's tag line of "Tackling Cancer One Mile At A Time". The ride benefits the UM Sylvester Cancer Center, everyone gets a jersey with #88 for Jim Mandich, great Dolphin from the 72 team that died of cancer a few years ago. You end the ride by riding into Dolphin Stadium. And even if you're not a Dolphin fan it probably beats the weather where you are in February and it helps fight cancer... and there are a lot of great cyclists! GOOD LUCK!!!

Next your next milestone are : 24,901.55 miles (circumference of the Earth). You are nearly at the 1/2 way point which is 12K
Keep peddling and don't stop, whomever or whatever doesn't keep up gets dropped...including the cancer.
...and we expect updates.

That's like 2,000 miles/year more than most people. Congrats.

Stories like this are what make cycling great, in spite of its inherent stupidity. Well done Daytrip.
Carry on.
Carry on.
