Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New and exciting road tires?

My 4000S just crapped out and I was considering trying something new and exciting.

Need:
-Survives cuts/punctures
-Good rolling resistance
-Good grip

I'm going to be using it for training/racing. I aint swapping tires out every weekend for races so yeah...need 25mm

I'm not fat.

I recently switched to some black chillies, they're great and all but... the vitoria open corsa evo cx that I had before felt more lively and faster. very nice tire but a bear to mount on my zondas.

they last plenty long as far as I know. I found the chillies on sale and I was sick of nearly breaking my tire lever and fingers when I needed to fix flats. I use one still on my trainer.

Based on the picture of your tire in the other thread, you ran over something that would've ruined any tire.

Having said that, I'm using Michelin Pro4 Endurance tires in 700x25. I've done crits on them and they stick well; I also did Rouge-Roubaix on them, a 103 mile RR with 20 miles of gravel and some incredibly bad pavement, with no issues. Be advised that they measure 27mm wide on my Open Pros, and I've read that they measure 28mm on 23mm rims. I get ~2500 miles on the rear. I weigh ~180 and run them at 90 psi front/100 psi rear.

Vittoria Open Corsa CX are great riding tires and good for a racing tire, but lack durability and longevity. For an all around tire I like either the Continental GP4000s or Vittoria Diamante pro.

The new Schwalbe One is supposed to be the most incredibly exciting new tire, in the world. You'll never look at your bike the same again.

I'd also recommend the Pro 4... while not new and exciting they're great tires. I've ridden GP 4000s, tricomps, rubinos, diamantes and a few others but prefer the Michelins to all of them. I personally find them to be more comfortable and more durable... That goes for both the Endurance and SC.

*sigh* probably going to double flat on my ride today now that i've recommended them

We are trying the Michelin Pro 4 Service Course and the Pro 4 Endurance this year based on numerous discussions here on BF and reviews read since last fall. Note if you go 25 on the P4SC it will measure out to be about 27. The 23 P4Endurace is actually about 23. Both of us are in the 155 - 170 lb range. If you hadn't already - check out this discussion. Lots of '41 style opinions:

The only time I've double flatted was on Gatorskins, go figure. Tire wire was the culprit.

I think I'm going to pick up a set of the Pro4 Service Course's and see how it goes. Thanks!

I ride quite a bit, and in my mind really good tires and wheels will not cause me to think about them. No direct excitement from either of them.

Really? I've got a pair of Diamante Pros, and I definitely put them in the "exciting" category, but not "durable"

Last time I used them I had no more flats than any comparable tire.

Same tire except
1. The colored tread option is gone, replaced with black tread and a colored stripe near the bead
2. They make a 700C 28mm wide size

Same Black Chilli rubber, same 330tpi casing, same Vectran breaker layer, same tread pattern.
