Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I can definitely feel the difference between PBS and LBS. In LBS, you usually have a owner who likes to interact with you and tries to help you.
But in PBS, I can definitively see the they are just employees.., dont blame them either as I like those guys..

They basically told me buy whatever feels good to you :-)
That has been my experience at the local Performance shop too. I've worked in sales before... and the local Performance here doesn't have a salesperson in the entire store. I can appreciate the value of a good sales person that really knows their trade. But I also enjoyed not having someone trying to "sell" me a bicycle that did not fit me... or my needs.

I felt one "salesperson" at another LBS did try to push me to buy the bicycle that he wanted to sell... instead of the bicycle I wanted to own and ride. It might be best if you can find a friend that cycles to go with you when you're ready to pull the trigger. To help bolster you confidence with your decision.

A friend has been looking for a carbon/ultegra, so this weekend I suspect she'll buy a Ridley from Performance.

Make sure you consider/compare the top-tube as well as head tube length. Looks like that model Fuji has a tall head tube, which could present a problem depending on how much saddle-bar drop you want (i.e. do want to ride low and aero like a racer, or more a upright sportive/century position). In general if head tube's too tall you may not be able to lower the bars enough; too short you'll have to push the envelope of the Max amount of spacers that can be safely used(especially with a carbon steerer fork) and/or flip stem. Hopefully this makes sense?

I am now bit confused between the two sizes. They both seem to be OK to me.

I ride a Felt z85 in 54 cm and the geometry is listed at: Z85 - Felt Bicycles
The fuji GF geometry is listed at: Fuji Bikes | ROAD | ENDURANCE SERIES | GRAN FONDO 2.1

Looks like Fuji GF 53 cm matches closely with Felt z85 54 cms. Not sure if I should go for FujiGF 53cm or 55cm.

I am 5'10'' BTW.

I can unequivocally and without hesitation say that you are wrong.

Prices on bikes DO NOT change before a double points or the yearly triple points event.

If you are sure you are right, post prices for a few bikes and how they have changed. Sorry but it really irks me to make such a blanket damning statement when it just isn't true.

The Gran Fondo has been sale priced at the current sale price for as long as I can remember. It doesn't magically go up to cover the cost of a special event.... And neither does any other item in any Performance location.

Thanks,
I am looking for comfort/upright posture and thus I am aware of tall top tube in Fuji.

Fair enough.

Retailers do change their pricing often enough though. Hard saying. I've been in a Performance on one side of town with certain items on sale, while the one on the other side of town didn't have the items on sale. I'm not sure how Performance sets prices, if its from the top down/nationwide, or if stores have the option to set costing as they see fit.

For example, wait for the camelback bottles to go on sale online, then go to the store...bet they're not the same price.

The Fuji is a good bike but will need some upgrades. The wheels, like stated above, most and of the Oval branded parts.
What year is your Felt F3? I have a 2009, I'm just curious!

I have been comparing the felt z85 54 cm geometry with fuji GF 53 cm, they look very similar...

The pricing should be the same at every store... the home office sets pricing for the retail channel, not the individual stores. If the pricing in Peoria should be the same at Scottsdale or Mesa. If it isn't, it's a store error... and the sales are complicated and not easy to set up so mistakes do happen.

Sadly, your observation for differences between retail and online are correct. there are differences and honestly, always will be. That s a reality of the modern retail system. Many retailers do not have the same pricing online that they do in the brick and mortar location. That said, the stores will ALWAYS match the online price if lower and likewise, the folks at the 800 number will do the same if the retail arm is having a promo.

I hate Kohls for the exact reason that was mentioned.. inflating to show a perception of a value. Performance just doesn't do that.

and for the record, I believe the Fondo is the most comfortable long distance road bike in the store. Oval is a house brand for Fuji. Someone said that wheels/tires are the first thing to change out.. I couldn't agree more.

Everything looks good except for the geometry. Those bars are super high. That head tube is loooong. Your arse is going to be hurting with all that weight concentrated on it.

Saddle to bar drop is about aero but it's also about a perfect weight balance between arse and arms with the arms fully extended.

Looks like this would be a killer deal for left over 2013: 2013 Fuji Gran Fondo 2.0 LE Road Bike - Segway Place almost similar bike for $900, no tax, free shipping, although shimano ultegra 6700

When I've observed that, I've asked the folks in the store if they would match the price online. They have always been happy to do that and have been really pleasant about it.

Interesting...never heard of 'Segway Place'. Those full carbon 'cross bike prices are pretty attractive.

I have Ultegra 6700 on my Madone and have no complaints at all, it's very very good.

I just got my wife's new birthday bike in today from BikeNashbar, a Fuji SL-1 carbon Shim 105 that was on sale for $1070 with $23 shipping! It was only in her petite size of 44cm, or I would have ordered one for me in 53..... I can't wait to get it together. She hasn't had a bike in 25 years, and she has no idea how nice of a bike she's getting into. I'm getting our whole family on the trail as fast as I can......

So, I test rode Ridley Fenix as well,
Sweet bike at $2400, bit out of my price range..

I need to compare again between the two: Fuji Gran Fondo Vs Ridley Fenix and see why would I pay more for Ridley.

I may wait for some time to see if the Ridley comes down in price along with 20% or 30% performance member cashback..
I am in no need of a bike right away and am traveling for some time.
I'd take my time to test ride and decide if I like the bike.
Ridley frame has just 5 years of warranty... Fuji frame has life time warranty.

Some of the additional money will be for the name on the bike, some might be for a better carbon layup. Ride them all and pick the one with the best fit that fits your budget. One other thing to think about is replacement, we all go down sooner or later.

That Gran Fondo is a completely different bike than the one OP is looking at. That's an aero racing bike. He's looking at a Sport/Endurance/Cruise. The headtube is not only shorter but it looks tapered. And I would bet the BB is substantially more beefy. That one looks like long distance stage racer to me. OP's looks like a someone who is not flexible or maybe has back issues, comfort cruiser.

I disagree with some folks here. That Fuji looks great and I'd keep the components. I wouldn't replace them until they wore out. I'd only replace say handlebar and seatpost, seat etc if you need something that fits you better or more comfortable. Those wheels will wear out soon enough, the brake wear, get new rims then. That's my opinion. It's a $2000 bike! The parts can't be that bad.
