I need new cycling shoes, but nothing is on sale
I realized I need new cycling shoes. This is clearly the "need" not "want"
My old ones are good for everyday ride, but I have them already for 3-4 years and do not look nice. Besides, I am (finally) getting professional Retul fit, and the cleats position could/will be changed.
I don't want to show up on Retul session with an old, cheap and beaten pair of shoes.
Do you think it is a good idea to be fit with old shoes, and then mess up with the cleat later? I am afraid I will never get it right up to 1 mm match.
(If you know a good place where to buy shoes size 42 on sale, please let me know)

Shoes are something I'll only buy if I can try on in person since fit can be an issue even of the same size and the same brand. So, I would go to your local LBS's and check out what they have. Maybe they'll have some of last year's models on clearance in your size.

Can't find everything on sale at the exact time you need it.

Who cares if they are not petty. The shoes I have been riding in are ten years old and held together with duct tape. They work just fine.

Oh man, you waited too long, back in January/February there were plenty of steals! I know the Trek dealers are running the "TrekFest" sale now, they usually sell Shimano and Bontragers.

Have a performance nearby? They always seem to have stuff on sale. Although $100 is kind of the low end of cycling shoe prices. Price doesn't necessarily equate to comfort but shoes is not a place I'd cheap out.

It would be a good idea to have your fitting with "broken in" shoes. Maybe you could ask your fitter if they would be willing to do a follow up with your new shoes?

Nashbar if you really NEED a sale
Cycling shoes last long enough that even spending a few hundred on them typically is a perfectly good investment. Years of use.

My Sidis are 8 years old with probably 50,000KM in them plus who 100's of hours on the trainer. They don't look bran new but there still fully functional. Pay the price, 300-400 is inexpensive in the long run.

You really need to post in the "Hot or not shoes" thread so we can tell if upgrades are needed.

Me too. Price is secondary to fit. I have a favorite LBS I go to for most things, but he is to small to stock a big selection of shoes for me to try. My last pair were from Performance Bikes, and I tried on every pair in the store. I am very glad the SIDI's were not he bet fitting pair, cause I would have bought them.

Mine have been used in the rain a few times recently, so at the moment they are not! I like the red and anything that has higher visibility can only be a good thing when you're riding with traffic. A fair number of guys that race in my area use these shoes, they seem to be the right combination of stiff soled and comfortable.
