Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your wants are very great for 10 miles of cycling. It's shocking you're not enjoying your current bike as much as you should be, already wanting something else. Already you have arguably one of the best bikes on the planet.

What's the point of "upgrading" from one SS to another. They are nearly identical frames and shaving a pound off an already light bike (probably less) is hardly worth it. Seriously dude, if you enjoy building bikes get something different. A SS is hardly a work of art (while nice looking, it's meant to go more than show). Get a lugged steel frame and go to town. You don't even have to spend a lot.

Exactly. Perfect for B10. Build it and take all the pics he wants and post them all over the interwebs. When he has time to ride, the SS is there waiting for him. Stanyan is also great for 10 mile rides to the local coffee shop where he can display his work of art for everyone to see.

I've wanted that 2012 evo HM since I saw it. For me, it would be an upgrade, but most of all it would be obtaining my dream bike. Might only be a minor upgrade, but it is a nicer bike. Not gonna get a steel bike. Let's not forget that this thread was more of a joke than anything. Weekend rides I get more than 10 miles. Still not as much as I'd like, but at least I'm getting out. The guys I ride with on saturday have a loop that is 20 miles. Sometimes if we all have the time we will add 5-10 miles. But that is rare since most of us have things going on that we have to be back home for.

That up-the-crotch shot was so unexpected it just made me laugh. Another father of two here. I can appreciate how thinly spread your time is. I usually get in a 50-70 mile ride sometime on the weekends. I ride to work so I get in a little extra riding that way but a long recreational ride during the week is out of the question.

112 waking hours in a week and I get about 3 or 4 to myself.

Apparently some people are a little more uptight than others. Its not like I'm wearing white cotton boxers while posting a bucket of water on myself. cant even see anything.

Ha! Maybe so. The pictures were purposely bad and of things uninteresting. Its like some folks can't step away from being the hard core cyclist to just laugh for a second. People that were on this forum long before me talk about how fun it used to be and that people could joke around. Guess those days are gone

I go to the gym at 4:30am and leave from there to work by 6am. Come home by 4, just in time to park the car and lay my crap down and walk down the street to pick up my kids. My wife works from 11-7, so I have the kids till she gets home around 7:30pm. Monday's and Wednesdays my Daughter has gymnastics at 6pm and Ballet on Saturdays at 11am. Tuesdays and Thurs she has swimming at 5pm. Wife plays volleyball on Monday's and Thursdays at 8pm. My week is SLAMMED so full that I usually cant find enough time to wipe my ass, let alone ride my bike farther than the stop sign at the end of my block. Luckily, the nights are staying lighter later so I might be able to have some time after putting the kids down for bed, but I'm usually so freaking tired by 9pm that I'm ready for bed myself.

I never found it necessary for any member on a forum to PROVE that he/she rode, but since it appears to be that way, I figured I would share my very uninteresting ride. Someone mentioned that they would rather read about my 5 mile ride a thousand times over than read about my brake calipers, so for anyone else that feels that way, Here ya go!

I didn't have a lot of time available, but I really wanted to get out. The weather was pretty good. Sunshine, Dry the last 4 or 5 days, seemed to be a headwind in every direction I turned. Winds were probably 25-30mph. Roads were pretty clear with little traffic and it looked like the road crews had just been out to sweep the roads. I had just come off of being sick last week so i wasn't looking to break any records, just wanted to spin.

Only got in 10 miles today. Not far, but it was a hard pushed 10 miles. Had just done some adjustments to the derailleurs so it was nice to get out and see how well I did (Surprisingly good for my first time). The last 2 miles is all uphill to my house, no way around it. Since I haven't been riding much lately, my time was about 40 seconds behind my normal times. Got home just in time to get dried off, changed and then off to the track with my son. I had told him all week i would take him to watch motorcycle Road racing.

I took some photos to also "prove" that I got out today. Enjoy

As a father of 3 from 2-6, with a wife who works 40+ hours a week and plays soccer (indoor and outdoor) 4 days a week... and owns only a Hybrid... i like to look at myself as a 'trainer queen'...

aka 90% of my riding is in my basement on a trainer.

Wife plays indoor two nights a week, outdoor on saturdays and Sundays.

I normally ride my trainer 4-5 nights a week. Normally her two nights of indoor soccer, and two nights that she makes use of the health club.

Kids are 'riding' during the outdoor games if we all go. Summertime yields more ride time for me as kids spend time away with grandparents for most of it in some sort of rotation (or all at once)

I was able to call it an early day and busted out a quick 15 miles. Felt good. Almost felt wrong since I'm not used to having that time after work.
