Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This. I've only been out twice with my new 6800 group but so far I'd have to say it's fantastic. Shifts are smooth as can be both front and back.

How is the shifting on the new ultegra. Is the lever throw shorter? That's the only thing I didn't like about the old dura ace.

And way more street cred than Dura Ace; which is for poseurs and those with rich sponsors.

I'm not a fan of the actuation used by SRAM double-tap technology. And I base that opinion not on personal use -- in fact, I've never used it -- but rather on the experience of having ridden in pacelines behind a lot of other cyclists who do use SRAM. I don't know what's going through SRAM-user's heads while they're shifting, but what I see & hear is an awful lot of wasted time & wasted effort. Shifting gears on a bike shouldn't be that hard or take that long.

But I didn't vote for DA9000 because every report I've read of Ultegra 6800 suggests that it is such a perfect sweetspot of cost versus performance that it's the preferred Shimano solution to practically every "What Groupset Should I Choose?" question. I've got 6700 on one of my bikes now, and if 6800 is even the slightest bit better than that it's an amazing gruppo.

I never tried the old Dura Ace but throws are way shorter and smoother than my 4 year old 105. The front DR is in a whole other league.

My vote would be for RED based on the list, but I love my APEX because it is almost as nice as red but my wife did not kill or leave me for spending too much on my bike.

Campy all the way. The rest is crap. If you can't afford it you don't deserve to ride.

I love my Sram Red, but my new Domane came with Ultegra Di2, and it's damn nice! Kinda like push button shifting.

do what you have to do for that rear wheel, change the free hub body, conversion cassette, new wheel....plenty of options.

I'm going to have Campy on my next bike, not that anyone cares. If you're only trying to pick between SRAM and DA 9000, then there can only be one answer...DA 9000
