Frame is finished, I cut and buffed it today. Need to paint a couple more parts and finish the fork.

Pretty much, thinking about painting the seat post and stem same color as the bike and remove the logos off the handlebar and keep it black.

Personally, I would be cautious of being too matchy matchy. With only two colors this becomes a real possibility.

I would consider a third, small accent colour. Maybe white saddle and tape? What colour is the group you will be using. I think I missed that.

EDIT: I see it it Shimano so you have some grey in there to work with as well. I might look at the stem and seat post in tones more in line with the group set.

It will certainly be interesting to see the finished product.

However I won't be putting carbon wheels back on it so I'm a bit undecided on what to do. Paint the stem and seatpost to match or maybe leave it alone. I have a matching pro vibe 7 cockpit and carbon seatpost. Thoughts ?

To me it to too much. The seat post and stem in the same colour makes the whole bike about that colour. I think you might need to do a partial assembly, to see it collectively, to get a sense of what might be needed to balance out the very striking orange.

With the group, geys might not be a bad way to go. There are also carbon wheels out there, with little to no branding, that could fit the theme and look you are going for. I am thinking specifically of the Rail wheels from November.

YES!!! I remember seeing that De Rosa as well. As a matter of fact, I was very close to sending my De Rosa back to Jack Kane for a custom paint job.

I really like like what you've done and can't wait to see it completed.

If I may weigh in, I think the matching seatpost/stem has to be done VERY carefully. IMHO, the bike at 2:55 looks great (isn't it the glow in the dark one? I watched it on mute). I think certain colors can look great when done as a frameset, but others should be avoided - and I believe orange is one of those (in my personal taste). I also think geo has a little bit to do with the ability to paint a bike one solid color, or having two. For example, I don't like the solid color with a second color as a logo on Trek's Madone and Domane 4, but the same colorway on their top of the line, aggressively fit bike wouldn't look bad.

The rule I'd follow is: if it is an integrated seatpost - frame/fork/seatpost can be the same color - otherwise make the seatpost an accent or neutral color.

If your bike had an integrated seatpost, it might look great in all orange with maybe a black stripe on the seatpost to break it up a bit, but since it'll have the clamp and be two pieces I'd try a different color.

Just wanted to weigh in here. I like what I'm seeing so far! My color scheme on my CAAD10 has grown on me. I have a thing for the simple white and black bikes, although mine is white/red. It would be way cool to have a custom painted ride some day. When I'm really bored, I design colorways on Trek Project One bikes.

I'm sitting here picturing this bike. With the black zertz breaking up the rear stays and fork, it could look real mean with the orange frameset, and then black stem/seatpost/saddle/bar tape/cables, especially with your black chainrings and crankset. At that rate, the crank arms could be done in matching orange, and it still could have enough black to break it up.

I agree. Just an accent with another color that you can match with cable housing or something. Orange and black would work. Black cranks and components with black cable housing?

Like where this thread is going. Good luck on the finished product, hope it all fits back together perfectly.

It won't look broken up. It will be a big blob of orange (which I like) and then the black will disappear. It really needs something to offset the black and the more I thin about it the more I think grey (along with the group set) would do the trick. It will make the black look more intentional and give the bike some dimension.

Do you have a photoshop program handy? Spend some time with the complete bike and find the balance.

What media did you use to cut/buff the frame? Did you use a machine or polish by hand? I would think wheeling out round tubes would be difficult.

1500 grit followed by 2000 grit and a small hand machine, it took a long time so I wouldn't burn the paint.

Since concern about burning the paint which is big concern with polishing on radii...I presume you used a small rotory polisher and not a random orbital polisher?...latter being more friendly but not having the cutting power. Is that right?

This is what I mean. A huge block of green and the black is invisible. It's a one note theme. No depth or dimension.

I see what you're saying but I don't think the lighting helps that one, or the blue one for that matter.
