I am riding again
If you call 20-25 miles @16mph average on flat roads "a ride".
This recovery is going to drive me nuts, but hopefully my fitness will return quickly. The doctor says to give 3-5 days for every day I was hospitalized, to get back to normal. That means 3-5 months til I'm "normal", and another 3-5 months for my strength and fitness to be back to where it was.
On the bright side of things, he also said there's no reason why I won't be able to gain everything back.

Thanks everyone.
I'm lucky to be fully able still, but I'm even luckier to have someone to train with. On of my friends is 17 weeks pregnant and needs to take it easy.

Congrats! I sure you'll be back in top form quickly.
To me, bigger than the physical part would be the mental part. Hell, someone else got hit by a car around here and I can't get it out ot MY head while riding. I can only imagine how bad it would be if I had been the one hit...
Anyway... see mirror thread...

Since you know how to properly train, I doubt it will take you longer that 3 months to get back to your old self. The first 90% will come back relatively easy, the last 10% will take some time. I suspect you'll embrace the challenge to get back where you were and you'll put in the time and miles to get there. Don't get too frustrated with a high heart rate with little effort. It will eventually come down after a month or so. Enjoy your time in the saddle.

I have faith that you'll be inflicting pain on the young guys again soon enough.

I thought "the look" was that DuraAce600 guy.
Glad you are riding again, and I am with those who think you'll SMOKE that doctor's expectations.
Are you changing your riding habits at all? Or treating it like "one of those things", bad luck? When I got creamed head-on (in a car) by a guy who just suddenly for no reason anyone ever found out came ripping across the center line, it threw me for a while as far as giving me the heebie jeebies with oncoming cars. I drove more over towards the fog line; maybe I still do for that matter.

Post pic of the bike!
Also 20-25 at 16 mph is very respectable to me. That's awesome. It's more than most cyclists ride I bet.

Or, I would think that if on the road I wasn't averaging 9 mph. On the road it is opposite. I coast and am on the brakes on all the downhills because of gravel, sand, and dirt at 6 mph, and my uphills are from 3 to 6 mph grinding up them, yet my average is always 9 mph.

Welcome to my world, at least until you get better. 20 miles @ 16 mph is a good training ride pace for me.

Glad to hear it, BoSox. I've come back from a leg injury that left me barely able to turn the pedals. Don't do too much too early. Don't let it get you down. Physical injury can do that because it resets all your previous hard work to zero and gives you the impression that there's no point to it all. You have to ignore that and press on.

Damn, man. That's better than me healthy. Go to it. Safe riding. Glad you're back.
