Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Foot surgery again?!?!?!!!

Well, let's see...I get diagnosed with depression this past fall....have to endure the winter from Hell..and now I have a foot infection (I am a diabetic) so I am under dr's orders to stay completely off of my feet until further notice. This is not the time of year that i want to be cooped up inside off of my feet, with the nice weather arriving. The worst part is that I am registered for The Enbridge Ride To Conquer Cancer in June and I may not be able to do it, unless my foot is completely healed. For those of you who know me and my history with this, this is my 5th surgery, although this one will be minor....I hope.

I guess all I can say now is ^^@^#@#!!.

Rats,

Brian J.

Sorry to hear about the foot acting up again, Brian. Take care of it and don't get wrapped up in the ride, your health is more important. Prayers for a successful surgery and a complete recovery.

Bill

Thank you Bill, and thank you everyone. The timing is rotten, not that it is ever a good time for this.

I feel for you. I have been battling a bad gout attack the last 12 days that has kept me off the bike. Very frustrating as I was starting to do longer rides. Once the damned thing subsides, will probably have to start over. Just roll with it and get back to riding as soon as you can.

Brian, my good man, it could be worst. I'm a 75 y.o. man. There is no medical procedure, pill, injection or other remedy that will change that. I, however, can at least still toddle along on a bike. Hang on buddy, better conditions are around the cormer.

Thanks everyone. I went to the xare centre last night to have the wound dressing changed and was told that te wpund has dried up (this is a good thing) and that the odor has gone, so likely, has the infection (which is a really good thing). Having said that, the drs still want me off of my foot until the wound closes. The pressure from standing and walking keeps the wound open and causes doscharge. I have been trying to stay diligent and it has been tough, so the good news was nice. As an aside, the health care system here in Canada rates high marks thus far. (have not yet done ant riding outdoors and am getting antsy. Whatever fitness I built up on the trainer this winter is gone and I will have to buld a base all over again. THAT, I hate!

Cheers,

Brian J.

First off I am sorry to hear that you have to contend with DM and a current infectious process. Second, do what the doc says. There is no minor surgery when dealing with diabetic foot infections and all must be taken very, very seriously. Diabetes remains the single greatest cause of leg amputations in this country and they all start off as "minor" infections. Good luck and may I suggest Game of Thrones, The Americans, and The Good Wife to keep yourself entertained. ALL are awesome series.

Thank you. This is my 5th (or 6th) time going through this. The last time was in 2009 so I thought I finally had it licked. It shows me that i need to be more vigilant...I thought I was being vigilant but, apparently not vigilant enough. I have been followinng dr's orders implicitly and it seems to be healing well, if slowly. They are pleased with its progress but I am not going to get lax with this.

I do have plenty to read and watch, but I want to be outside on my bike or outside with my camera. I am not very good at being patient but I am not stupid and have no desire to make this any worse.

BTW....Is there anyone who doesn't like Game Of Thrones?"

Cheers,

Brian J.
