Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It says that if you are out on the salesfloor and a customer approaches within that distance of you, you are supposed to look them in the eye, smile, and greet them. There are refinements such as "don't say 'what a beautiful day' to someone who looks like they're having a crappy one" and "if you're on a time-sensitive project, at least smile and give them a nod as you pass" but the principle remains the same. You can see why this seemed like a good idea in theory. In actual practice, it results in a good bit of ducking down aisles and employees not quite catching the eye of shoppers. Which is too bad because when I've followed this rule, customers are usually so freaking grateful that someone recognized their presence, offered to help them, and said "Hey. Thanks for shopping here" that you'd think they'd been on an island with no other humans. At the same time, perhaps ironically, we would get more done if we didn't have to interact with customers. That's one of the big reasons I try to stay in the assembly area as much as possible.
...I always wondered why they ran away from me. I know the old man smell does not radiate that far.

While shorts are not acceptable workwear for most positions at Walmart, skorts are. They have to be less than 3" above the knee, however, and the images I just saw would not be. Brooks Running has a line for women called "Infiniti". It is totally spelled with an "i" at the end and that got me thinking "Would that make a good stripper name? Or is it too something or other?" Not for me. LOL Although I did briefly hold the unenviable job of fully-dressed waitress in a strip club. I'll leave you to imagine how little of my take home was in tips. But the place always smelled great.

Fortunately, @BillyD does not ride sufficient miles to need fear this accumulation.

Forgot the Neosporin! Primitive yes, but works better than commercial tapes and bandage I've used on 15 mile hikes. The whole assembly shields the skin from further irritation. Actually clean paper towel works best, because it's lack of bulk. The only purpose of the cloth or paper towel is to keep the duct tape from sticking to the intact blisters.

I should have realized I was getting hot spots leading to the stupid blisters, but it just didn't occur to me. I thought only of usual sit-bone butt pain from lack of riding.

I am happy to report I wear shorts to work *almost every day. Sometimes I wear flip-flops too. My engineering position is so far removed from customers that no level of management down in my division cares what I wear, they have made fun of me for wearing slacks, dress shirt and tie in the past.

This appeared on a local cycling website yesterday: "If you’ve got kids in your care, then there’s always a big question come summertime: What the heck will they do all day? For many people, the answer is some type of camp." I start laughing and say something like "That seems rather drastic". LoP wants to know what's so funny and I read him the quote and he still wants to know what's so funny. (In my defense, we did just watch the movie "Stalingrad".) And then he says "Always thinking about Hitler". Which is, of course, not true and besides, I'm sure that was a lot of people's first thought.

Interesting operation. Effective, but if you look closely the roots of the infection are still there.
