Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Would people buy used cycling apparel?

I was going through my closet today and realized that I have a bunch of cycling tops and bottoms that I will never wear again and was wondering if anybody would buy it if I put it up for sale. Most of them have only been worn a couple of times and I'm not the type of person to return stuff so I just put it away and never wore it again. I personally would never buy any type of clothing used, but I know there are people who shop at thrift stores for used clothes so I guess you never know.

I'm curious to see if anybody has tried selling it and if they had any luck.

I might buy a jersey that's only been used a handful of times if the price was right. Wouldn't touch used bottoms.

I've sold a few jerseys that people threw in with a purchase. Don't expect much...but things will sell.

People buy used stuff all the time from eBay. Not everyone does it, but some people will buy it, wash it, and wear it. There is a market for it.

I've both bought and sold items with light wear. Easily washed. Hell, wash them several times. Save 50 to 75 percent.

My thoughts exactly on the bottoms, and that's why I'm asking. I'm going to try to put it up as a bundle package though. See what happens.

Bottoms to bundle your package? Sounds legit to me.

Sell the jerseys separately from shorts/bibs. The more you lump together, the fewer the potential buyers.

Sell the jerseys and shorts separately. Lots of people would wear a used jersey, very few would wear used shorts.

Only if it's the best jersey money can buy!!

I kid.

Honestly, if the clothing is is very good shape, it probably has decent value, especially if it's high end stuff.

With the exception to a pair of Pearl Izumi Elite shorts everything else is Performance brand so not exactly high end. That's the only reason I'm selling them is because I realized it's not a good idea to skimp on gear. I recently purchased a pair of Assos S7 bibs and I am a true believer now. I put the other stuff up on craigslist and have some people inquiring about it.

+1. Buying used cycling shorts is like buying used underwear. Then again, people will buy anything if the price is right.

What if the pair of cycling shorts belonged to a Victoria's Secret Model?

Jerseys ... maybe.
Shorts ... no.

And if someone were trying to sell them together ... no.

As for price, I would have a look at Performance to see what their lowest price jersey is going for on sale at the end of the season ... and expect to pay less than that for a used jersey.

I've sold lots of used jerseys, jackets and vests on Craigslist. I sold them all cheap. I think it was like $10 each for jerseys or five for $40 type of thing. I think I got $20 for the jacket. Mostly they were jerseys that no longer fit - i.e. too big. And they sold quickly, within a couple of days of posting.

I've never sold bibs or shorts though. I wear them until the wear out. Even the ones that ended up being a bit big were fine for trainer days. Then they go in the garbage can.

I'm into vintage bike garb. Used shorts don't bother me. If they have some cool lettering on em even better. If they have horizontal lettering and are made if wool, i'll be high bidder.

Used socks and shorts only. No jerseys.

Peoples' arms touch those
