Too Windy to Ride?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My limit is about 30 mph as long as I don't have a long period in a cross wind.

Central Illinois plains get pretty gusty in the spring/fall. Open, empty corn fields for endless miles can allow some serious winds to get rolling.

15-20 with 25+ gusts is sucky...20-25 with 30+ gusts is plain miserable in all directions unless your with it. Above 30 sustained and I'm on the trainer.

When it's 15 or above sustained I'll keep my rides to 2hrs. Like many have said...it can be good to wear you out but it gets old quick pounding into wind that has you spinning your ass off going 13mph with gusts that will slow to to under 10 instantly. It's demoralizing.

It was a bit windy in So Cal this weekend. Actually rode my road bike for the first time in a month (been on the MTB's as of late). Lol...felt the 404's get a bit sketch on the strong wind gusts.

I did 35mi, 30mph windy-hilly day yesterday and I felt beaten to the ground after.

I of course was the dumbass who used deep sectioned wheels as well.

If it looks like a storm is going on, that windy, yeah I don't want to fight that. Otherwise, I'll ride.

As long as the return trip gets the same force winds as the going-to trip, I'm cool with anything ))))
