Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I guess you can't please the miserable...

For your enjoyment I'll take a battery of pictures, but "odd bits of half-hearted color, completely lacking in imagination" is a direct jab at Campagnolo.

Well, nice job carrying through with the look of today's top-shelf stuff from Campy. But I don't get it. Brand new it looks damaged. Super Record and such, that is.
But I'm kinda glad of that, not miserable. I was happy to stick with Athena - discouraged (rather than tempted) by the looks of the spendier stuff.

Edit: OH! I see now, it's supposed to match the white in other areas of the frame... ok...

Thanks; I really like it! Please explain how Super Record looks damaged when new.

I’m happy for you and your component choice. Campagnolo is nice for many reasons, but the biggest reason for me was that when I crash I have the ability to replace bits easier than Shimano or SRAM. Not to mention when I was looking at RED 22 the hoods were roughly $200 more than Super Record (SR). When all was said and done I was able to build my SR Tactic cheaper than I could have a RED 22 Tactic. I like top tier parts for many reasons one of which I’ll admit is looks. I love the look of the 2014 components!

I “build” my bikes to a high standard - for me because I like it - and spend less where I need to for items of high wear like the chain and cassette.

Now to touch on your comment of:

Please add a bit of clarification and some constructive criticism on the above quote. While building the Tactic LE there are three primary colors: clear coated carbon matt, white, red and a bit of yellow. Every component I picked followed the frame cue from the 3T Team bars, Super Record, Easton stem and post - came with the frame, Selle Italia SLR saddle, and lastly the red water bottle bolts.

Should I lower myself to getting everyone’s approval? No, but looking beyond one’s own taste is what this thread is about. I enjoy looking at all bikes since most of them are a reflection of the owner and their taste.

So, to accommodate you - and your NY personality - I’m including a few additional photos for your viewing disapproval.

The white piece of electrical tape on the seatpost is my gauge for seatpost slippage - just never removed it since it’s a nice reminder if it does. With the amount of miles on the bike it can probably go…

EC90 stem and post are the ugliest things ever. Slam it, and get some 3T stuff to match the bars and you're getting pretty decent, but not mindblowingly hot.

Formally, the Campy stuff looks fine, but honestly, the first closeup I saw of the new SR, I thought the website had been hacked. Rather than having the regular pattern one expects from CF, the variation in flatness, darkness, reflective-ness or whatever is irregular and mottled looking. It's an interesting idea, getting away from the conventional CF look, but it makes the parts look like they have been abraded, the crank arms especially.

As for the halfheartedness of the color, first there's the yellow - just some labels, pretty much where one expects to see labels, doing what labels do. If that was all there was, it could be a nice accent. But then there's the red. How much red is there? Not much. So why is there any at all - what's it doing for the bike? Again, not much, but there it is, a spot here and there. The red around the 11 is like the yellow (just a label), but the odd lines on the forks and seat tube, the top of the bar, the weak stripe that gets lost in all the bold white markings? There's too much that's arbitrary and unrelated to anything else, and on the whole, graphically/visually, it's incoherent.

For what it's worth, I approve of the new photos.

I agree with dudemanppl. I'm a fan of easton road products, but I find the EC90 stem and post butt ugly. If easton is what you desire on this ride, I would have gone with the EC70 group. And, remove the white tape on the post and use a small strip of black 3m electrical tape. JMHO
Cheers
