Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Black hoods, black saddle, and replace those bottle cages (they look like cheap plastic ones) and it's hot. Bordering on hot even as it sits.

Excellent, but a little too serious to be "hot." The hood and tape combination is very striking - an imaginative riff on the design of the frame, and I think the bottle cages are the perfect choice. However, I'm afraid the skull just doesn't fit very well anywhere on the frame, but the placement is probably as good as it's going to get. Are the bars white, or is that just white finishing tape? I'd like to see it with white pedals, too.

Would you say he needs a black top tube, too?

Thanks everyone. I think the tape/hoods discussion is interesting. I had white saddle/tape/hoods on my previous bike and wanted to try something new. I'm not a big fan of white tape/black hoods for some reason. If anything I'll swap saddles and go all black if I get tired of this look.

I put a skull decal on my first bike years ago and it's kind of become my thing. Love it or hate it, at the very least it's been a conversation starter!

McTufferton,
Your BMC is very hot. Like some others, I am not a fan of white hoods. Still, she's one sweet looking ride.

Dunno if you're trying to be funny but no. Contact points should be black, we don't have a team of mechanics to keep things white for us.

Does the tire rub the downtube under hard braking ?

Perhaps you would like to tell this guy to change out his cheap bottle cage too (same one):

If anyone asked me what their Elite cages looked like to me, I would tell them "cheap", I don't really give a **** what that person's job is. That's just how they look to me; bulky, loud, and most of the ones I've seen have little rubber stops on them to hold bottles in place. It's all very over the top, bottle cages should be simple.

it's a gorgeous bike. for practical purposes, i don't like the saddle and hoods, but aesthetically, i must admit they work for this bike.

I agree with @bmcphx regarding the cages. As far as the other white bits, they actually work. Hot

20,000+ miles on my last bike in 3 yrs with white saddle/tape/hoods; never required a mechanic to keep them white. I think all black would add nothing to this bike.

Clearance is close for sure, but no rubbing.

Ok, So my first reaction was "Cool! I love the back and tan color of the saddle, hoods, BMC and stripes!" But now I realize that they should be white in color but because of the digital camera no flash they appear as tan. Too bad. The black and tan thing would be very distinctive!

It looks hot.

Isn't that a TT frame? Are you going to RR on it? Dunno about the geo of the BMCs but my TT bike would make a crap RR bike due the slack head tube, steep seat tube, tight clearances and relatively wimpy bottom bracket.

That BMC is beautiful. I'm a murdered-out kinda guy, but that color scheme is totally rad.

Thanks. Not a TT frame; it's their aero road frame. As with all my bikes it will see a lot of race action, both rr and crits.

Well, I wondered if it was you who was trying to be funny - thought it was pretty ironic that you were suggesting that he eliminate the very things that made the bike distinctive, and make them black and ordinary.

As far as keeping things clean goes, I don't see why the saddle would be so hard to keep reasonably bright. Also, I think white hoods are a better choice than the more conventional white bar tape. it seems the hoods could still look OK despite a bit of grubbiness. I've definitely found that to be the case with white pedals - I have some and very much like the look of them still, despite the fact that they are far from pristine and difficult to brighten. On the other hand, there's something about white bar tape that makes it look not merely dirty, but sloppy when it gets grubby, so I agree it should be avoided in most circumstances.

I agree, first time I've appreciated non-black hoods. Are these TMR02s super-stiff and uncomfy?

Nice. Did not know they were doing that.

Way cooler aero frame than a Venge IMO.

In the few miles I have on it so far it is very stiff. It feels great when laying power down. I had it out for 80 miles yesterday and it's no more comfortable/uncomfortable than my other bikes.

I was looking at the TMR as my 4th BMC bike but too bad it discriminates against shorter torso'd people I really wanted one.

Looks amazing. I don't care what anyone says.
