Opinions on buying new old stock helmets?

I'm looking for a new helmet and obviously last year's models are cheaper ..or older. I see a lot of 2010 and even 2009 models for good prices. So they say replace your helmet after 3-5 years. Some people say that clock starts when you start wearing a helmet and sweating in it and exposing to weather etc. But I've seen some others saying the foam starts degrading immediately. So is it worth saving a few bucks to get a new 4 year old helmet?

Why do you need a helmet?

Do you have many head crashes?

I wouldn't hesitate to buy NOS. I don't believe that styrofoam degrades significantly sitting in a box indoors.

Why even take a chance? Check online and you can find great deals on current models.
You're just trying to start an argument to show how smart you are.

Check this out: When to Replace a Helmet?

I would buy NOS, but once they are last season's helmets, they tend to be pretty cheap anyhow so I personally wouldn't bother going back 5 years for a helmet.

NOS is fine if you are comfortable with the standards it complied with at the time if was manufactured. NOS is typically not exposed to sweat or weather so it is not starting to degrade. However, if the package it messed up then it may have been repeatedly abused (dropped, kicked, stuff stacked on it, etc).
