    Part Search 5510 Cover sets.

    Hi All,

I have recently acquired a bike in less-than-happy condition. The first concern is that she needs cover sets for both shifters. I believe they're Shimano's 5510. Pictures attached if anyone disputes.

Unfortunately, I can only find half-sources for these cover sets. Anyone got any clue on where I can source the pair? Hopefully for not too much cash?
Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!

Replacement 5510 and 6510 nameplates have been VERY hard to track down for some time now.

Shimano Ultegra STI-6510 shifter name plates

r600 is compatible if you can find those. All three are rare enough that they go for quite a bit on ebay when they do show up.

What is a cover set and what does it have to do with nameplates? Apparently you don't just mean hoods?

I'm sure he means name plates. Though I'd be interested if someone can point to a source for 5510/6610/r600 replacement hoods (and the OP might as well).

Okay, I ask a different way. What is a nameplate?

I've got a similar set of 3x9 5500 (105) shifters in need of hoods and nameplates... I gave up on finding them online and bought a set of Sora 3400 shifters. Your best bet might be to do the same (or get the 3500 sora without the thumb buttons)

as an aside, it seems like someone could 3d-print some of these nameplates pretty easily (if, of course, they had a 3d printer.)

^ actually, there is a difference between 5500 and 5510. I shot the OP a PM with a link to a 5510 plate and mount. He better act quickly though, and will still need/want a plate for the other side.

Possible. Or maybe just looks that way because it is missing the plate mount as well as the plate? Either way, a quick double-check of the model number (under the hood) would be wise.

Word. Did the check. It is indeed a 5510. (Whee...)
Thanks much for the link. I'm going to jump on that and probably be good. I don't care so much for the name plate, but I do want to cover with the mount at least. I appreciate your help.

Also I found them called lever caps, name plates, and cover sets. Took a stab at what seemed to be the most official terminology. Haha, oh well. Can't win them all.

    Cheers all!

Ive been looking for the 5500 name plates, like goenrdoug posted, for awhile now. It seems like you have to buy the whole shifter just to get the name plate.
