thinking about purchasing this bike, need some input on if it's reasonable
Hello. Newbie here. I'll try to behave....
Posted this in the "general" thread and it was then suggested I post it here. Newbie move !
So, a rider in my area is selling his old GURU GENEO roadbike. He has a new Ridley so does not need this older frame/component set. GURU is a custom only carbon bike maker and has a good reputation.
Here is what he is offering.
- frame. Some minor scratches but in good condition
- full dura ace 7900 component set. On a scale of 1-10 it's a 8.5. Some scratches but by all accounts is in good shape. The only thing I really don't know about is wear and tear on the chain and cassette.
- handbars (would be replaced)
- seat post
Price = $1800.
Couple thoughts.
1 - I have not negotiated at all . So, price may dip some.
2 - road the bike Saturday (65 miles) and Sunday (25 miles) and the bike fits. The seller and I are the same height so the setup was close to being dialed in. Bike seems comfortable enough without me doing any adjustments. If I bought it I would have new bars - double wrapped - , lower the stem and adjust the placement of the levers and break hoods
3 - I'm currently riding a Madone 4.7. It's comfortable bike and I have enjoyed it but the performance of the GURU is obviously more responsive and faster. Noticed within a couple peddle strokes the difference a stiff frame and dura ace make. Of course, this is the difference between a race setup and frame vs Madone 4.7 (full ultegra). I get that.
4 - I don't know exactly how old the GURU frame is BUT is has Dura Ace 7900 on it so it cannot be that old. I have a call and email into GURU based on the frame number. For todays sake I will guess and say 5 year.
5 - I'm not a "racer" but do plan to doing 2-3 crits a year in the future. Plus, everyone likes being faster. The frame is a big improvement over my 4.7.
My question is this...... In your opinion is this a reasonable price? Is $1800 fair? If you back out the dura ace group set I'm paying roughly $1000 for a GURU frame. The handlebars are terrible and will need to be replaced. I like the bike and the ride but I need some insight from you all on what you think the frame is actually worth.
If I decide to buy I would simply sell my madone 4.7 as a complete bike and then find some wheels.
Thanks!

Looks nice, just be sure that the frame has no damage from crashes.

thanks. Because of the frame age? I'm thinking if I can get a good deal on this I will be most excited about the dura ace at a decent price.

IKR?
My suggestion continues to be that a thread that has had no activity for a year (or 2 or 3) should only be bumpable by the OP to update it.
Since this thread was posted GURU went bankrupt. Sad!
