Newbie Suggestions

Hi everyone, looking for some of your experienced advice. I bought a Trek 7.3 a couple months ago and have been riding it quite a bit and really enjoying getting more into the sport. Up until this I hadn't ridden a bike in many years and I am trying to do it to get back in shape as well as build towards longer distances for charity rides and what not. I like the 7.3 but after riding a friend's dropped bar bike, I REALLY liked it.
So here's what I'm thinking; seeing I do some family rides on a gravel trail with a tow behind bike for my daughter, putting tires on the FX that would be more dirt/gravel appropriate and getting a true road bike.
So question is, what do you guys think and what would you recommend to get for a road bike? I like Trek.

Trek Pilot.

Get a beginner road bike and go on from there.

I love my entry-level Trek road bike. I've had it for 4 years and it's more than capable for any riding I'm ever going to do.
