Tire still usable?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tire still usable?

Found a long cut on my front tubular. Patch it with superglue. Any advice if it's still usable? Thanks in advance.

Not usable, unless you don't mind walking home or calling for a ride.

looks like the tread is delaminating from the casing.

When superglue hardens, it becomes brittle. The tire flexes as it rolls so it will crack into pieces and become further embedded into the casing. It may have been possible to fix your gash, but not with superglue.

That tire was on its way out as it was. Center tread looks pretty thin. New tire. being cheap on tires is a terrible idea unless you want your skin to look like beef jerky

Since they are tubular, I'd use epoxy instead of super glue, once it opens up again. It sounds like only the tread has separated.

If you wish to keep it, I'd take it to your LBS, I do believe most of them will give you an honest answer. It's rather difficult to see from a photo. No LBS, then toss it IMO

If you can't see the tube and none of the casing threads are cut or damaged, then sticking it back down should be fine.

I would probably replace it to be safe. For some small cuts I have used Shoe Goo with success.

If you can see the inner tube, then the casing has been cut, under pressure the tube will come out at this weak point and blow.
The tire is no longer usable
