I logged 133 miles this past week and ordered a Defy 1 on Friday. LBS is going to fit me this Thursday or Friday, depends on what works best for me.

Took the family to a local city bike trail and everyone road for about 10 miles (just decent hybrid and mountain bikes). My 21 yr old is on his way to being hooked as well. The wife and 14 yr old like it but my wife will stick to easy joy riding on the weekends. The 14 year old loves it but he has started football.

Hopefull looking forward to a 50 mile ride this upcoming weekend on my new bike - wooohoooo!!!!!

Good week....

2nd week i rode 82 miles.
My 3rd full week ends tonight and I have logged 125.1 miles.
My goal from now on is 100+ depending on weather.

Started at 6'2" @ 271 lbs.

So your third week ever cycling and you did 125 miles on a 30+ year old Schwinn Traveler at 271 pounds?

This many miles on an old bike is why I'm getting a new bike this week. He He He

Yes Sir!!! And, I ride on nothing that is "just" flat - no monster hills but decent hills...
You have a problem with that?
Every time I go into the LBS - they just have a blast with me.

What I can say so far is - "Will Power" is huge in this sport but your body has to be healthy.....
I'm pretty healthy other than a kidney disease and 2 heel spurs on each foot.

PS: I didn't say I was riding 19-20mph but I do average 13.5mph. Just having fun and getting in shape brother.

Lots of riders in my area:
Saturday on my long 40 mile ride I was passed by several people. 1 Group came by and several said Hi, the dipchit in the middle says "Bye".
2 guys rode with me for just a few minutes and were really cool, they enjoyed talking to me and thought I was doing great, they went out of their way to say goodbye when we split up.

Just askin man, that's petty good. What amazes me is I see old guys (older than me, I'm 46) with potbellies, probably drinking beer every night, who can hammer out a century ride like nothing. A good way to get your mph up is to ride in one gear higher than is comfortable for as long as possible. Just tell yourself to not upshift. After awhile that gear will feel easy. That's what I do if I've been off the bike awhile and get out of shape.

I live one county over from you and I'd say this is a nice area for biking. I usually ride along the river on the west end of the Ville but once in a while I park over at Tom Sawyer and ride out of there. Lots of people out and they are almost always cool.

I appreciate the holding the gear, or 1 up, for as long as you can.
I will use that here after I get comfortable on my new bike.
Right now, I'm trying not to hurt myself, but push a little bit at the same time - if that makes since.

It's funny, because I could stand and be aggressive on a hill but the front tire squawls real quick.
Note to self; do not get aggressive until you lose some weight.
