The Asplosion Heard Around the World??**TdF Spoiler**

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I didn't decide anything a priori. I decided not to trust Specialized after their first lie ("Specialized, Tinkoff-Saxo’s bike sponsor, initially denied reports that Contador’s bike had broken at all, either resulting in or as a result of the crash, or via some other externality." Details of Alberto Contador's Tour-ending crash - VeloNews.com)

How many times does Specialized need to change its story before it's reasonable for me to lose trust?

You can see that it's broken in the picture. Look at the K in S-Works.

Let's see, their very first statement said that Contador's bike wasn't broken at all. That's obviously not true. Either their information was terribly wrong or they were lying.

They followed that up by saying that Roche's bike was the broken one, not Contador's. Again, bad information or more lies.

Later the story changed to Contador's bike being "run over". More bad information and/or lies. Granted, this one is actually reasonable. I can see how "being hit on the roof rack" could have changed to "run over" in a game of telephone.

Sounds like no bike that he was riding was broken (neither causing his crash nor a result of it).

What an ugly world some of you live in. It's all lies. Trust no one. Give 'em one chance to get it right. Big corp. can't be trusted. Blah, blah, blah. As I said before, ain't no one gonna get the best of you.

Do you really think the only concern of the folks tending to Contador and his bikes was to tell you what was going on? Get a life.

Sagan is my favorite. Anybody see him ride no handed while popping a wheelie up hill over the finish line after that unbelievable stage?

No mistakes here, only lies. How interesting!

I submit you never had any trust to begin with and therefore none to lose.

Five. And they've only changed their story four times.

"Then Specialized (not people on the internet) came out with conflicting explanations, each statement given as a fact"

You saw someone from Specialized make conflicting explanations? Where did you see them? Who were they? Did each of these people state what they were saying was fact, and what the prior Specialized spokesperson was wrong?

Or have you just repeated what you read online?

Riding a steel bike is a necessary condition for making trouble here but not sufficient.

Well, looks like this is one for the Mythbusters to work on, no way to determine what happened by examining video or historical accounts. They'll have to use the experimental approach, and ride CF bikes around on abandoned runways until they assplode. Which will happen sooner or later with those two guys on the job!

Wow there are a lot of dumb dumbs on this site.

The only thing I fault Specialized for is not waiting for all the details to come in before responding to the questions/concerns from media and public. But then again, in today's "need information yesterday" world if Specialized were to state that they were going to wait for all the details, the trolls would have hammered them even harder.

Note: I own and like Specialized bikes.
