Anyone wear just regular shorts over their cycling shorts?

Just wondering if anyone wears regular shorts over their cycling shorts? Kind of getting tired of parading around in spandex. Not trying to stir the pot or anything, just wondering about options. Thanks.

Why are you parading around ?

I put on bike clothing, ride my bike, then back home I take the clothing off & take a shower.

Don't see the point. The only places I "parade" in spandex off the bike are the bike shop where we meet for group rides and convenient stores where we stop on long rides.

for relatively short rides (<40 miles), I often wear regular athletic shorts and underwear. for underwear, boxers are best, because the speedos make my ass hurt

Just get baggy type biking shorts. The ones I use are snug underneath, but look like regular shorts outside. My favorites have s liner that attaches with snaps so you can wash it separately. No one wants to see me in tight shorts, trust me

Why does it matter? I could see it if people are harrasing you or something silly, but even so I just thank them for looking.

I live in redneck central here and the only people I get crap from are my sisters who are just pissed because I'm skinny.

I do this all the time. when on family treks, I wear them under cargo shorts for walking through whatever stop and visit we have planned. And it allows for the pockets of doing their jobs for holding wallets and cell phones. Hands need to be free when there's a 2 yr old. I also where them under athletic shorts for work commuting because, quite frankly, my co-workers don't need to see that.

I've recently gotten into longer distances and a TT or two. straight spandex for that.

I've done it a few times when I'm going to a destination where I'm going to be off and away from the bike for a spell. I once rode out to Home Depot, about a 12 mile ride, to pick up a small item. I carried a pair of nylon athletic shorts in my jersey and then slipped them on before going into the store. I left my shoes at the bike and walked around in my stocking feet.

I've done it, light running shorts I could stuff in my jersey pocket, but vary rarely. I'm usually just riding in which case I don't care, or running an errand and wearing casual clothes, but hardly ever a long ride where I'm also stopping in public somewhere.

I like to bicycle tour and when I go into restaurants, etc. I put a pair of baggy shorts over my bike shorts and I also put on a fresh T shirt. Maybe it's my imagination but I don't want to be offend other folks sensibilities.

I always wear regular shorts over my bike shorts when I wear them. I don't go on many rides long enough to bother with the bike shorts. I usually stop after work for an hour or so and just wear the same shorts I have on at work. I do change out into a wicking t-shirt though.

I want the pockets of the shorts. I carry my phone, my keys, my wallet, pack of gum, and such. I didn't realize how small the under saddle bag that I bought in medium size was going to be. I can't fit anything else in there with a spare tube and plastic tire levers, or at least anything else other than my keys stuffed in the very front at the zipper and hurry up an zipper it up before the keys fall out.

A jersey would solve that problem.

I like the stares I get from women at local bars and coffee shops, gotta wear the spandex! That and it is funny listening to my young kids tell me I look dressed like a girl when I am geared up.

umm..I can read your comment several ways.. the most obvious is response is... "Yes, his sister's door is most certainly open, wide open, and her blow wasn't that low"

I've got to say that in the real world I see riders at parks and MUP's wearing shorts or people cruising the neighborhood but I've never seen anyone show up to group rides in baggie shorts except for a couple of guys who would come straight from MTB rides.

    You left your bike outside?

If I stop at a Home Depot, the bike will come inside with me while I shop. Not once has any employee ever said anything about it.
