First tune up after purchasing a new bike
When I bought my bike a few weeks ago, the manager told me to be sure to bring it back in for the first (free) tune up. Forgot to ask him when should that be. After a certain amount of miles, I presume. How many and what do they typically do on this first tune up? Thanks.

I took my CAAD10 in to REI for the tune up because hey, it's a free 2nd pair of eyes on my bike to see if there was anything up, and might as well ask them to look at that clicking sound that seems to come from the handlebars.
They couldn't identify the source of the handlebar noise, but it has since faded and I don't hear it much any more. Other than that the only thing achieved was that the mechanic and I both agreed that the stock Schwalbe tires are awful and the GP4000s I'd put on were a much better choice.

Took mine in after 900 miles, just got it back yesterday. I'm really impressed by how much better it feels. Things got loose here and there very gradually and to have everything cinched back up all at once makes for a noticeable and delightful improvement all around.
Edit because I realized I didn't address your question: in my case, mechanic tightened up the headset (was slighly loose), dialed in the deraillurs, dialed in the brakes, and re-trued the front wheel which was slighly out.
I don't know if it's a set amout of miles you're looking for, I would just make a judgement call on when things are starting to feel loosey goosey.

ask the guy who said that what he meant.
I read somewhere to have the wheels/spokes tensioned trued before riding the 1st time and then again after the 1st 100 miles. after that one a year depending on miles ridden
