Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Also, if it matters. I mostly use my bike for commuting 22 miles round trip to work. I do some weekend rides with the wife, usually under 50 miles.

I highly recommend the KMC SLX chain appropriate for your 11 speed drivetrain. Also the difference between the Tektro brakes and Ultegra is remarkable. If Ultegra makes a 57 mm set and you can anyway afford it, buy the Ultegra. I can't say whether the Rival crank will work with 11 speed. Why aren't you getting Ultegra? Mixing all this stuff up may save some bucks, and that's fine if necessary, but full Ultegra would be sweeter.

I think the only 57mm caliper shimano makes is the R650. But i can switch to those. I wasn't planning on using the an ultegra crank, because i like longer cranks and Ultegras come in 175mm max.

I also cant' say if that cranks will work but I know you can't mix and match SRAM 10 speed and 11 speed but not sure if SRAM 10 speed crankset will play with 11 speed Ultgegra. Better make sure before buying

I would check your brake selection to make sure they are "Super SLR" compatible, which is Shimano's name for the latest generation modified cable pull. I recall seeing some long reach versions that were, and some that weren't.

You don't list a cable set but that may come with your shifters if you're buying new. Also you don't list tires and tubes.

I went with the Tektro R539 brakes and was surprised at how much I like them. They work very well and look pretty decent also.

I'll suggest what I run for tires. I REALLY like them. Surprised at how fast they are and how comfortable. Compass bicycle sells them. 700x32 Grand Bois Cypress.

I've been very happy with my ES and have sold my other bikes as I just don't need more bikes that aren't as versatile as this one.
