Ultegra 6700 Shifters - Price Drop?
I am going to need to replace my 6700 shifters in the not too distant future. They are 4 years old and the exposed metal parts are TERRIBLY rusted.
I would have guessed that since the new 6800 group is out, I would be seeing leftover 6700 shifters on closeout sales, but they are still going for $250+ US. I would rather spend $150-200.
Anyone have suggestions besides drop down to 105? Do we anticipate a major price drop eventually?

All I can say is that used 6600 shifters in good condition still go for $150+, and those were already obsolete when you got your current shifters (6700 group came out in 2009). I wouldn't hold my breath for new 6700's dropping into that price range.

normally it doesn't happen like that. When 6600 came out, there was no significant price drop for 6500, and there was no price drop on 6600 when 6700 was released.

6703 set is around 300.00.
At this point, I think it may be worth it to get an entire 6800 groupset. Yes, it requires a new wheel but probably worth the upgrade.

You can get an entire 6800 groupset from Merlin Cycles for $736.07
Shimano Ultegra 6800 Groupset | Merlin Cycles
which as an entire refresh on a groupset is a steal, considering since your shifters are already rusting, I'd hate to think of what else has rusted/pitted in the groupset.

I love my 5700 shifters.
Shift smoothly and the hoods have comfortable ergonomics.
You can probably find a set for cheap, but not the cache of Ultegra.

Or the 5800 group for $440 from Ribble but it's selling out fast. I've heard dealer cost on the new 5800/6800 groups is slightly less than the previous 10sp generation. But honestly $225 for a pair of 6700 shifters isn't that expensive IMO.
BTW, there is no difference in the hoods of 5700 and 6700 that I can detect.

The very early batches of 6700 shifters were prone to rust. Shimano has not really acknowledged it but it's true. I got one of these early sets. I believe they fixed the problem pretty early on.

Thanks for the suggestions regarding upgrade options, but I have a couple other bikes that are all 10 speed so for now I am not inclined to upgrade to 6800.
I will keep my eyes open for a good price on 6700 shifters or else get a set of 105 5700 shifters.
