Backtracker Radar System
I was discussing with some riding buddies that it would be cool to design a device that could warn of vehicles approaching from the rear as we have all had cars sneak up on us at times. A little research and I found someone is already working on the concept. It looks pretty cool. May be better if it had an audible alert of some sort.

That's very cool!
I have to admit that I don't feel as though I have a hard time dealing with approaching traffic, but I'm sure that having a system like this would be great once one got accustomed to using, and trusting, it.

This.
You can keep an eye on the road and on a mirror at the same time. Much harder to do that with a radar indicator. Also, the mirror tells you exactly where cars are rather than a general proximity indication. The only situation where I think this would have any advantage would be headed into bright sunlight/headlights where you can't see properly into the mirror.

I won't bore anyone with my reasons for using a mirror but I will offer a tip on purchasing one. After years of using the slightly sleeker looking alternatives, I finally switched to the mirror below (Bike Peddler Take A Look) and would never go back. Broken clips are a thing of the past and the only thing that ever goes out of adjustment is the horizontal mirror axis which is an easy fix, unlike any ball jointed mirror I have used. Well worth the price you pay in the looks category.

Like the "bike Lane drawn by laser lines", it's another idea that sounds good, but isn't useful.
Two previous threads:
iKubu Backtracker - rear-facing radar for bicycle
onboard radar for you bike, - useful or not?
~~~
But, I remember reading about an experimental ankle cuff that vibrated on the side facing north. So after wearing it for a while, the person would tune it out, but still always know which way was north, without thinking about it.
A sensor strap that made a stronger vibration as the car approached would let a cyclist be aware of cars without having to monitor a screen. Hmm.
I want the cars to detect me, not the other way around:
Google's self driving car tracks other cars, bikes, pedestrians, and objects in the road in a full 360 degrees, and doesn't get distracted.
screenshot of the cyclist's left turn arm signal detected:
The video is cool.
