Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

He didn't break the bike and apply for the warranty remedy 8 years ago. He just broke the bike the other day. That's how I read it.

Something is definitely wrong here. Cervelo has a stellar reputation of dealing with warranties issues and correct things many other manufacturers wouldn't. I agree that Cervelo probably doesn't see the break as a warranty issue. I've followed the Cervelo forum for years and see many many owners satisfied with warranty issues and the company bends over backwards for customers. What other manufacturer has a web site where complaints get posted without editing?

Bike frames aren't supposed to go bad just because they've been hanging in a garage for years. I would also be interested in more details about exactly what reason was given by both Comp. Cycl. and Cervelo in concluding that this was not a warranty issue. And presumably much higher quality photos were sent to Cervelo as part of the claim - hard to make out what might have initiated the failure in the fuzzy photo above.

Cervelo replaced my cracked 08 Soloist with current model S2, April 2013 - it took six weeks to deliver to local Cervelo dealer, who I worked through (not the dealer I bought from). Still, can't complain! The S2 rides very nicely.

I would buy a Cervelo again.

I frequent the local Dealer more often than any other LBS.

IMO, the Dealer who fills out the paperwork is a factor.

Your pic and the verbatim (or close to it) details are very lacking.

I agree with this. You may have a legitimate claim, but if you're approaching Cervelo and CC in the same manner as you're approaching us in this thread, I suspect they're blowing you off because they don't believe your story.

So they offered to replace the frame and that wasn't good enough? Are you trying to get them to give you money?

I probably would have told you to go away too.

Crash replacement = selling you a new frame at a reduced price.
Warranty = replace free of charge.

Think they are different, no?

Strange that Cervelo won't honor the warranty. Did the chain come off and slice through the frame??

I bought a 2010 RS from Competitive Cyclist. It was a closeout sale subsequent to Cervelo dropping them as a dealer. The bike developed the bottom bracket cracks that are known to affect RS and R3 frames around this vintage. I called CC and they told me nothing they can do, go to local Cervelo dealer. Went to LBS Cervelo dealer they emailed some pics to Cervelo and warranty approval came same day. Frame arrived in about 2 weeks. I think Cervelo's done enough warranty claims that they know which things are definite Cervelo issues, so maybe they think OPs damage could only be caused by something not covered by warranty.

I am going thru a very similar issue. I have a 2 month old R%, loaded DI2DA. I noticed a crack on the top tube. I keep my bikes in immaculate condition and take very good care of. LBS sent to Cervelo. There "engineers" are disclaiming responsibility. I wrote 3 times to Robert Reijers, CEO, asking him to personally loo at frame, which they haven their position and explain how this could be cause by crash or blunt force as the claim since there is not a blemish anywhere on bike except for the hairline crack. He basically told me tough luck-"their warranty allows for their sole discretion" and they are not covering. This was my third top end Cervelo-SLC SL DA, P4 SRAM Red. They are offering a $3200 crash replacement!! Incredible. They have lost a 10 year loyal customer.
Happy to discuss with you further-I am planning further action.
