Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Today i rode 87.2 miles from san jose to redwood city then to palo alto and then san jose. The weather was 48F sunny with moderate winds. I switched back the tires and put the 28's on the Felt Z5 carbon road bike and they fit. Also swapped out the stock saddle on the 29er with a Kappa prologo saddle, stiff but not as comfortable. The "heavy hauler" is what I am calling my off road 29er touring bike, soon it will have a front rack and panniers. It was a nice day today.

Had a short 6.5 mile ride up the Atlantic Coast on A1A in Boca Raton, FL with my wife. She tested out my road bike for the first time after being on a comfy bike. She actually liked it! Beautiful day. 85f light ocean breeze. Who could ask for more!

Its been a month since I got in a ride. Collapsed lung and surgery really bites in to saddle time. Might get to ride this week after two different Dr. appts. but will see. Getting ride fix through these forums.

55 mile training ride out to Cumberland, RI to meet up with a pair of friends from the Attleboro area to get some miles in together. Short punchy climb on Tower Hill Rd. It was in the 40's when I left, got into the 50's by the time I got back, and now it's in the 60's. It was a glorious riding day finally, not a cloud in the sky, Spring is finally here. Tailwind on the way out, headwind all the way back home.

Today i rode 69.3 miles from san jose to palo alto then over the dumbarton bridge to fremont, around coyote hills and levees. i visited an old friend in fremont, we hung out and shot the breeze for a few hour and had lunch with popcorn. the weather was 53F sunny with medium to very strong head winds, the descent on the bridge is about 10 degrees i was pedaling 7 mph with full headwinds hitting me. i rode the mountain bike with full panniers and trunk bag loaded. it was a good day, over 800+ miles in 2 weeks on this bike. my joints in my knee and elbows are hurting but i am too young for these issues. i am going to switch to the road bike with backpack for now.

Eat on a schedule and don't start out too fast. I did well on the scheduled eating part, and not as well on the pacing. Legs were pretty shot by the end, this is part of prepping for a double coming up this June.

Today at 4am in the morning i rode 26.1 miles from palo alto to san jose in the dark with only a iphone flashlight app, not very bright but it helped a little. The weather was 48F cold and windy. I had to guess in the dark where i was going because the screen wasnt to bright, it was scary on the levees one false move and you drop 20ft in to the water! I was crawling at about 8-10 mph for most of the trip, i lost my old flash light some how, so i am buying another soon. I rode the road bike Z5 carbon today.

Today i rode 25 miles using the Guadalupe river trail to sunnyvale park and back, the weather was 61F sunny with strong head winds again. I like to play on the swing set for an hour then head back, good thinking happens there. It was a fine afternoon.

Today i rode 25 miles with road bike from san jose to palo alto then rode to mountainview to buy some lights from performance bikes and returned to palo alto. Later i took the mountain bike 39 miles from palo alto to san jose. My trunk bag finally died, the zipper broke and it would come unraveled. The weather was 48F sunny with light winds. I talked to the manager at performance about their hiring status and told me they have enough people and on a tight budget, maybe in a few months it will change.

Today i rode 108.6 miles from san jose to san mateo and back. The weather was 54-82F sunny with light winds. I took the mountain bike this time with gatorskin 28c tires on it. I swapped the tires from 52c to 28c early in the ride and it made a big difference. The road were not to bad but i almost got clipped by a person opening their car door, i hate when that happens. I have now over 1,000 miles for the month and going.

Today i rode 22 miles with the mountain bike using the Guadalupe river trail and san tomas trail, later i went to the head of the trail's bathroom. Five minutes later my mountain bike was STOLEN!!!!! I walked 3.5 hours the whole length of the trail (10 miles) to caltrain station in cycling shoes very painful. I took the train to Cal Ave station in palo alto and walked another half mile to my house and got my road bike. I then bought a few things at the lbs so i can continue biking. I then road my Felt Z5 carbon bike 29.2 miles to san jose. It was a bad day, the bike cost about 450$ and a few hundred in accessories. This bike i am not taking any chances if it is not in eye site then its with me.

Today i rode 77.2 miles from san jose to palo alto then over the dumbarton bridge to fremont and back. The weather was 50F sunny with light winds, i did had a flat in the rear tire because of a pot hole i ran over. Also i almost got hit by a car trying to beat me to the right turn lane, just let the biker go first damn it! I the bike is holding up good, 5 flats, 1 chain replaced, 1 pair of tires replaced, and bartape.

I did 40.5 miles in the NW corner of Ohio, as far NW as you can get. Decided to ride every road in that county this summer, it was a few miles of gravel, and a few more miles of some really piss poor roads :-). 500 feet of elevation in 40.5 miles.

I THOUGHT it was pretty damn flat around here but my commitment to exploration has had me finding that I live in hill country to some degree :-). I rode a lot last summer June through December but stuck to pretty much the same route which is pretty flat :-).

Me and 2 of my friends rode from Manasquan to Atlantic Highlands and back Total (48 miles). Started flat with headwind then a lot of back to back hills then back to headwind returning home. It was great, we demolished the hill section. Passed a few guys with tarmacs in the middle of the climbs. Thats an awesome feeling to pass dudes on hills . Winter riding definitely pays off.

Still can't get warmed up sooner then 10 miles. I don't know how to improve that.

Today i rode 25 miles on my road bike feom san jose to palo alto. Then i bought a 2014 Dahon Mu P8 folding bike in black for a good deal. Then visited my new niece in dublin CA. Afterwards i took the new folding bike and setup the way i wanted to and rode it 28.8 miles to san jose. The stock seat is not to bad but i will replace it with a romin evo saddle that i have. I will be riding the folding bike most of the time.
