I have a bike with 5703 setup. Alu crankset chainrings wear fater than steel ones. I'd rather have a 100 gram heavier steel one and forgetabautit.
At the rear, I have like 12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21-24-27. It's bad for stop and go city rides. 8 speed cassette with 2 tooth jumps is much more practical in real world. For me at least. Except for racing purpouses. My other bikes were 3x8 and 3x6. From my experience, 3x8 is the sweet spot. Flawless performance even when it's cold and dirty. Cheap to run, maintain.
If I got bike for free, even if I didn't have to do my own maintenance, I'd rather have a 3x8. That's me at least.
At this moment I've put 5703 on local version of craiglist and plan to replace it with Shimano Claris groupset - 3x8 setup.
Edit: on the 3x6 bike I ride, the nice thing is cassette starts with a 14 tooth cog - that is the smallest one. Really nice when on the big ring up front. I'm not very slow or weak rider, but find cogs smaller than 13 almost useless. For descents, when you really want to push faster... but who wants that when not racing - you just enjoy the downhill.

I agree on the <13t though - very little use for me...especially an 11t.

Yes I do: "DON'T!"
Marketing, nothing else. Don't buy into it. Been there, done that.
Edit: OT Ultegra (6703) VS 105 (5703):
Ultegra STIs are slightly better for hands. Comfier. This has been experience of both myself and a friend who has 6700 setup. Swapped bikes, tried them out. 105 is not problematic, even on longer rides, but Ultegra is a bit nicer.
Rear derailleur: an acquintance mechanic has dissasembled both Ultegra and 105 and says that Ultegra has some lighter, faster wearing parts. Not the man I know well enough to be sure so I take that with a grain of salt.
The rest is the same - I didn't notice any difference, though I rode double Ultegra, not a triple one.

Simple enough then; ship the OP your 5703.

Truthfully, though, slaninar, if you want to pm me the details on the 5703 group and I can see whether it's the right fit for what I'm looking for, let me know... I'd possibly be in the market, depending on some details about the spec.

It'd almost be like taking someone else's nuclear waste, or guantanamo detainees... I feel like I'd be doing a public service

170 mm cranks, still the original chain (not worn). Very seldom ridden. Not selling the brakes - got some medium reach ones to fit the frame. 250 euros would make me happy.
