Problem Powertap pairing with either Garmin 510 or 310XT
Hi guys,
I've recently got a used set of Powertap wheels, but have a problem getting them connected to either my 510 or 310XT. Neither device can locate it. I can connect the 'cap' to my computer and in fact had updated it to the latest firmware version, so I know it works... Am I missing something? I'm trying to "wake up" the unit by spinning the wheel, though I simply raise the back wheel of the ground and rotate the crank by hand; bike is still not completely assembled, so I did not attempt to take it out for a spin - maybe I need to apply more power (as in riding the bike)?
P.S. It's an older unit with CycleOps logo on it, but with G3 cap and it has Ant+ logo on the back side, so I'm fairly confident it's a Ant+ capable unit... I guess I can always order a new cap, but don't want to throw money if there is nothing wrong with the cap I already have.
Thanks!

If it's got G3 internals it should pair pretty seamlessly. I have a new G3 wheelset with a Garmin 510 and the only time I have issues pairing is when the hub goes to "sleep." You could try contacting Saris. There is also a big Powertap support thread over on Slow Twitch where you could ask the question.

I have an PowerTap Pro (Ant+) and it does not require any pedal force to wake up and pair it. Just spinning it by hand or rolling the bike a few feet get it going.
Have you tried punching the PT's code directly in to the Garmin?

No issues pairing with my G3 either. I just spun the crankset backwards a few times to wake the hub up, and then it paired easily.
Is it possible it may be out of battery?

Call Powertap (Saris) and they will send you a new donut. I just had this happen last month. Some of the earliest G3 internals are rumored to have failures. Possibly because of a short in the donut. The good news is, you no longer have to ship the whole wheel back to Saris. The send you a new electronics donut, you install it and away you go.

Thanks guys! What's the PT's code that needs to be entered into the Garmin? Can't figure out where to get it. Might as well try it, though I think problem is in unit not waking up for whatever reason. And yes, I did swap the battery for a new one...
P.S. I went ahead and bought a new G3 cap. I also spoke to Powertap support and it seem that if new head does not fix the problem, I'll have to send them the whole wheel for overhaul - rather expensive, so keeping my fingers crossed...
