Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Picked this up today

New to me / used road bike. It's a 2008 Fuji Roubaix Pro. Took it out for a short ride after I got it home and cleaned it up.

Has new Gatorskins
Forte Titan front wheel. Also came with the stock wheel
Selle San Marco Ponza Saddle - Older

Shifts great and I really think I am going to like the groupset. I am coming from Sora stuff.

I got it for $300! Really excited about it and figured I would share.

Thanks! I will hang on to the Masi for a short while just in case. My dad is out of shape and I want to see if I can get him into the hobby to try and improve his lifestyle.

How could you get steel from that? The frame and components are all aluminum.

Nice look bike.

Darn my bargain last week seems paltry in comparison.

I believe 2003 was the last year the Fuji Roubaix Pro came in 853 steel.

Edit:

I paid $200 just for the frame...

Pop off the front derailleur cable and see if it is a (newer)double or triple shifter. If it is a triple, consider using the middle, big ring positions on the shifter for your double setup. The 105 ST-5600 initially came out as a triple only and was spec'd for both double and triple setups. When using the small and middle ring positions on a double setup, a pawl inside the shifter would break (when shifting to the big ring and forcing it against the upper limit), thus leaving you small ring only and unable to shift up...

Great, thanks! I assume this is easy to tell once I pop off the cover of the shifter and easy to switch the cable over? I will try this when I get home this evening.

Up until a couple of years ago, the Fuji Roubaix Pro was built with Reynolds 853 steel.

Sure, if a few years = 10 or 11

But I hear ya: I have a Reynolds 631 frame that I like a lot, and I'm sure 853 is even better.

Yeah, Fuji hasn't used steel in their racing lines (Altamira, Roubaix, SST, etc) in a looooooooooong time. They only use steel in their shifting road bikes in the most basic model's fork. (With an aluminum frame).

Look at the tube shapes/diameters.

Man......22 posts and no, "Flip that stem, kick that saddle up another 6 inches & you're good to go!" ????

That is a very nice ride & smokin' deal at $300!!

I'd love to find a deal like that but the wife has ensured my imminent death if any more bikes mysteriously show up at our house!

A walkout basement to sneak the bike in and a somewhat similar paint scheme and she will never know

I am thinking about trying to flip the stem. I did get a new saddle for it today...anxious to try it out.
