Tire damage - keep it or replace it? (pic inside)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Can't quite tell if the threads are cut or not.

Assuming no (or little) thread damage, I would fill the hole with Shoe Goo or somesuch and ride it some more.

Otherwise, use it up on a trainer if you ride one.

I was trying to poke around to see better but it is hard.
It appears that actual thread chewed up almost to the casing.
That tire has antipuncture layer Veloflex - Open tubular tyres - Corsa 23 in between of the thread and casing, I guess this is what prevented puncture.

I'd take off the tire and inspect for damage inside. If none, then boot it and keep on the rear. If damage inside, then trainer tire.

If in doubt...

I wouldn't want to be stuck with it 30 miles from home. 375 miles is low, but you're gonna end up buying a new tire eventually. Agree that home trainer is a good solution.

The problem with two wheel vehicles is that if you have a catastrophic tire failure, you can't ride on one tire. Think of what would happen if the tire failed going downhill at 35-40 mph. I don't know what kind of condition would cause it to fail at one of the damaged sites.

I ride a motorcycle as well, a V-Strom (cheap to run, owned by very cheap b***ards typically), and I'm amazed at how far guys will push tires in the interest of saving a few bucks, going "down to the cords" in the interest of an extra thousand miles. For me, if it's on the bubble, with tires, I'll just ditch it and replace... I apply the same rule that I did when over-spending on a headlight: if I'm sitting in the hospital as a result of this choice, am I going to still think it was worth saving the money? Usually, the answer is no

Agreed! I rode a BMW GS12 for many years, but retired my street riding on MC's

...the cheapest thing on a BMW is the OWNER!

Based on the color, I'd replace it. Based on the pix of the damage I'm not so sure. If it doesn't bulge and there's no danger of the tube protruding, it's fine. If it bulges a little, a boot can often suffice.
