Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Claris 2400 vs. 105 ST-5600 Left Shifter?

Does anyone know if the new Claris 2400 shifters are the same size, shape and lever length of the old 105 St-5600 shifters?

I busted my 105 and have been using a fugly 2300 triple with that thumb nubin till I find find something better and I saw that the Claris Left shifters are pretty cheap, and should shift at least as well as the 2300 I have on there now.

*(both the CLaris I want to get and the 2300 I'm currently using are for 8 speed drive trains, but I'm using the 2300 on my 10 speed 105 setup and it seems fine for front shifting a double)...

+1 on a new matching 4600 pair:

I'd be careful with used 5600. They had a lot of issues with the original left shifter (5600) that could shift both doubles and triples. They pretty quickly changed to double (5601) and triple (5603) specific models - those would be safer bets. I think this black set is a later design/batch:

That is an active auction, I doubt it will end anywhere near <100. I was looking at Buy it now stuff, for which a Claris Shifter is sub $50.

Anyway, I know they look the same, just wonder how close they actually are in size/shape etc...

I bet it stays around/under $100. These (and a bunch of others) sold for at/under $80 shipped:
2013 Shimano Tiagra St 4600 L R Shifter Brake Set 10 x 2 Speed Road Bike New | eBay

You could maybe shoot this guy an offer...but don't overpay:
Shimano Tiagra 4600 Shifters 2x10 | eBay

But sure, I think the Claris would be fine if you can live with the slight mismatch (better than what you have). I don't know that enough folks will have direct experience with both shifters to provide much insight.

Okay thanks anyway guys. The claris was my plan b, but i managed to snipe an Ultegra Left shifter for only $5 more. I think the st5600 and st 6600 are physically the same...shape wise...

The claris brifters shift pretty good; I'm running them on a bridgestone XO-2 with no complaints.
