Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My friend from Hervey Bay says I'm not allowed to talk to New Zealanders. He does say the country is gorgeous though.

Secondly, I thought the purpose of this Tour de Addiction was to visit the home cycling areas of the contributors, not that @gnome, @Machka and myself should come to you.

Therefore, there must be Southern Hemisphere legs to this Tour. Trust us, we have some excellent cycling. You could fly, or sail as @Heathpack has suggested, into Auckland. From here we ride down to Wellington, catch the inter-island ferry to the South Island and swing by to collect Gnome.

To get over and see Machka and Co. We'll either have to fly or sail again. I would volunteer the Fred Family yacht, but, it's not reasonably capable accommodating more than 6 offshore and there certainly isn't room for bicycles. So, unless one of you have a long range private jet, we're probably stuck flying commercial.

But, Australia also has some gorgeous riding. As long as we're not trying to go upwind.
This tour should totally include a voyage down under on @Heathpack's yacht.

It depends upon the average speed.

Our friends kids and the neighborhood kids got me pegged for a sucker for sure.

I get to go pick up $10 worth of crappy chocolate bars today, can't wait to get the $20 of bacon etc.... When the kids are desperate for ice cream truck money they make crappy rubberband bracelets and sell them to me for a dollar to two, these go straight in the trash. I'm a sucker.

Peppermint tea is awesome on my tummy, this is great except I was supposed to buy Spearmint tea. Anyone want 8oz of dried organic peppermint leaves?

I'm applying for a federal job right now, it's taking forever and ever.

I'm never going to find a job

Probably good to note. No climbing on the water so recumbent position would be less problematic than a bike.

The next time you talk to this friend of your's from Hervey Bay ask, "if they're aware of a Kiwi ever bowling underarm?"

You can talk to Kiwis. That's just fine. And, us expats living here as well. Aussies on the other hand. Well,,, I'd make sure to count your fingers after every hand shake.
