Addiction XXXIX

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sadly, there was no wine acquisition today, but I think we still have some Fulkerson wine in the cellar.

And welcome to North America.

I'd imagine Vancouver, BC or Seattle would be the places to look for power adapters. Gonna be tougher to come by in Portland and even tougher in Eugene, of course.
You wouldn't believe this, but we walked into a Canadian Tire in Chilliwack, and Presto! There is a Duracell adapter for just about anywhere in the world for $20 (plus tax)*. Then we went to Target who have taken over Zellers, and there is another simpler adapter... for $7.50. We bought both because after all we do have two computers.

*In Australia, it is against the law to advertise something as $X plus tax (which is generally a Goods and Services Tax, and we don't have state retail taxes). This idea of being in North America, seeing a price, checking the cash in pocket, then finding you are a couple of bucks short at the checkout because of state and federal taxes takes some getting used to!!

But as always, I have adapted. A bit like driving on the opposite side of the road... and tipping (which I remain completely mystified every time I come here because tipping is not something that happens a lot in Australia unless the service is very, very exceptional because waiters get paid a good hourly rate anyway).

No sales tax in Oregon so no worries while you're down that way!

Waiters and waitresses in OR get paid at least $9.10 , $9.32 in WA.

A good ride yesterday, and actually a functional unit today. There is a scheduled 200K on Saturday, which looks like a possibility.

I'm counting on you to ride all the miles I'm missing while I'm off boating.

Nice party last night. I'm finding out now who of these sailors are also cyclists. Turns out there's quite a few. Sweet.

Thanks Heathpack! I will do my best, though your totals are daunting.

It's amazing how many people have bikes, and actually admit to riding them.
