I lost my Mom, Renate Kierey (she went by her maiden name) last night, she passed suddenly, I was down in NJ all day making arrangements. I'm the sole heir (I was an only child) and she was 80, not ill, but overweight, high BP, cholesterol, etc. They listed 'natural causes', she was face down next to her bed, we're all assuming cardiac arrest, stroke, etc., some major cardiac event, hoping she didn't suffer (probably not). I lost my Dad in March and my dog Sam less than 12 months ago. Rough year.

Wrote this for my Dad who passed in March.
Promises to Keep
The early sun low on my horizon
Told me it was time for me to go
It made it that much harder to be risin
And the sadder thought that somehow you would know
I kinda felt like maybe I should stay here
That I owed to you now that you are gone
But I knew that it was time to let you go now
I knew that it was time to move along
Just because I stopped my weeping
That don’t mean that I don’t cry myself to sleep
It’s only that I know I must be leaving
And I know I still have promises to keep
I feel like I’ve been grieving such a long time
My life it seems like now it’s filled with ghosts
You weren’t just the only love I lost now
But losin you well that’s what hurt the most
Just because I stopped my weeping
That don’t mean that I don’t cry myself to sleep
It’s only that I know I must be leaving
And I know I still have promises to keep
In the sober light of morning
I know you’d want me just to be ok
There’s the bigger part of you that is inside me
And maybe I can carry on that way
Just because I stopped my weeping
That don’t mean that I don’t cry myself to sleep
It’s only that I know I must be leaving
And I know I still have promises to keep

We all mostly deal with death, which is all around us and inevitable, with denial and humor. Or we'd all go insane.

I just hope my Mom Renee and my Dad Thano both knew just how much I loved them both, they both died in the last six months. My Dad passed slowly and painfully, my Mom so suddenly, you never get to say good bye. And in the end all I can ever do is try to live up to the high quality people they both were. Both came from Europe with virtually nothing, he in 1946, my Mom in 1956, and built lives for themselves in America, which they both loved so much, even while never forgetting or losing the love for their native countries (Greece for my Dad, Germany for my Mom).
They both were the epitome of what makes America so great, hard working, self-motivated creative people who came here for a better life. Think of how much courage it takes to leave everything you've ever known to go to a new place with a strange culture and language, because you think if you work hard you'll get somewhere? That's just as true today of the ditch diggers from Guatemala as it was for my Mom and Dad, legal immigration issues notwithstanding, the motivations seem all the same to me. For the most part, lazy bums don't make that leap, takes far more character than that.
I couldn't be prouder of my parents, and I couldn't be more grateful for them. I just wish they were still here. Don't we all?

It would be neat if Fleetwood Mac showed up, assuming you will have a marching band like the video did.

Pcad, over time one's grief ceases being bitter and turns quite sweet. Yet it still remains grief. I think of my folks often and draw strength from their memory, and still I miss them horribly. I wish so much that my children had had more time with them and that my children's spouses and my grandchildren could have known them.

@Pcad
Don't mean any disrespect, but in accordance with the sense of humor you are so blessed to have in abundance . . . . your beloved NY Mets are nearing completion of their sixth consecutive losing season. #thatsashame
(A little levity during trying times is always therapeutic).

I like the "Swell to Great" button. Everyone wishes they could start out swell, and with a press of a button, they become great.
I also notice a couple Trumpet buttons, with Bombard below them. Bombarding one with Trumpet is quite something.
Explain why they need you again?

I like the "Great to Pedal" button. I remember it being great to pedal, back in my riding days.
