Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This. It is an absolutely hoot sometimes that people get so twisted up about enjoying their ride.

What's a carhart? I think biker is pretty popular amongst normal people, although, for me that means this (which maybe is not so bad).

It's so much a damned if ya do, damned if ya don't proposition. Once, last year, I think, I came up slowly on a group of older riders, made myself known to the guy bringing up the rear, and almost openly laughed when "rider back!" was parroted by every one of the 12+ riders up the line. I swung out, passed with a fairly wide berth and the ol' lady at the head of the column still tried to chastise me for not giving proper notice. I could only give her one of those blank stares that I reserve for the very dumb.

I really thought you would go with the musical reference (Stutka's Over Disneyland was a fun tune), and not give away your Men's apparel predisposition. My eyes are up here, Missy!

Scotland has been talking about this forever, though this is as close as they've ever come to accomplishing it. They were smart, as the all the industry they purportedly have, still won't cover the folks on the dole.

The "just ride to ride" attitude wears me out. If you're on a bike, you're riding the thing. How you choose to ride is up to you. If you don't feel like taking 10 hours to do a 200K, it shouldn't be held against you.

If you're not riding 200k a day in cargo shorts and a cotton t-shirt, then you're a poser.

It occurs to me that @LesterOfPuppets, @datlas, and me are the only ones who regularly ride road bikes anymore.

The rest of you posers should be kicked to the ambulatory wing of Foo.
