Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cheap kits on ebay

What's the deal with cheap kits on eBay? I was searching for bibs and came across some team kits sets that are less than 50 bucks, when they sell for much, much more than that. I'm assuming these are cheap Chinese copies or something?

I have one of the Chinese jerseys and they are decent quality for the money - $22.00 delivered. I have worn it maybe twenty times so far- I like it and would buy more. I have not tried the bibs.

I have two kits bib shorts/jersey that were about $40 per set. I've worn each probably 25 times each and they are still in perfect shape. They have rubber in the arms/legs/jersey bottom to hold them in place. I'm sure it's not as good as a $200+ kit but it's been fine for me. Just watch sizing as you need to order bigger than you would here due to chinese sizing. Jerseys I've got in US I were M but I need L in china size

Western brand name products shipped directly from China are almost always counterfeit. Some of this stuff is decent quality, some is not. You pay your money and take your chances.

I had a couple when I first started out. They are cheap for a reason and they are all counterfeit. Its like buying a disposable razor. It works, kinda. Doesn't last long and not as nice as better quality razors.

I found the fit to be sub par and sizing was all over the place. Quality was sub par and didn't last long. Most importantly, the chamois pad was awful. They are cheap for a reason.

Go to performance and get their in house stuff for not much more and be much happier.

I have Pinarello knocks off from ebay, PRC of course.

Padding is horrible, overall they look like proper kits, but they are nothing alike, they get stretched to easily, padding goes horrible after few months, gets in the way when sitting, blocking blood circulation, hard to find a spot where it does not make a blob, or it just goes just way too much infront and gets in the way.
Upper kits, shirts that is, their pockets stretch way to easy even after a few rides, does not really seem to breathe as good as they should, but they do work.

Would never buy them again, I have one summer kit, one long sleeved/long bib and one "winter" kit bib and shirt with fleece.

Pass.

I tried it once. Jersey looked cheap, cut/fit was weird, and the black bibs left dye on my white saddle. I never buy cycling clothes from Chinese eBay stores anymore. My advice would be to avoid.

You can also sometimes find racers unloading their amateur team kit on ebay (unused or used if you don't mind sharing bibs after a wash). Those are pretty hefty discounts and they're real manufacturers rather than knockoffs. This is an example-

Westendbikes PDX Team Kit Specialized DNA M Jersey L Bib Shorts Fluo Colors | eBay

You just can't mind wearing gear for a shop you've never heard of.

I have two ebay jerseys. They are both well made of good materials. I've worn them for years and they have held up well and still look great.

I'll pay the price for good bib shorts...not going to play games with the bits and pieces or the sit bones...I prefer Voler shorts.

A friend had some of that stuff, the bibs tend to be unusually revealing, especially in light colors. Please don't wear that stuff to a group ride.

I have a Chinese-made Korean jersey that is decent. Decent value for the money that is. I actually prefer the "Asian" sizing over American vanity sizing.
