Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got my 'new' bike

I've looking in the classifieds for the past couple of months for a decent road bike under $1000, preferably carbon, but would have settled for Al as well if the right one came along. I finally pulled the trigger on a Specialized 2011 Roubaix SL2 with complete 105 groupset in very good condition.

I'm pretty stoked about it. Unfortunately I cannot take it out today due to the rain, nor take a decent picture of it indoors.

Thanks. I am hoping to take it out tomorrow morning. Not sure how comfortable it is. The previous owner was similar in stature to me, but he was a bonefied racer.

So very true, as with buying almost anything used. I've done plenty of research. Coming onto this forum was part of that research.

My wife thinks this was an impulse purchase because I saw the ad last night and by 10 this morning I had the bike home.

Exactly. I've bought numerous things off of the used market and often times when it is a good deal you have to act quickly.

My last bike, purchased two months ago, was a Giant Rapid 2 2012 in complete mint condition for less than $300. Time lapsed between seeing the ad and having the bike home was under an hour.

the local bike co-op has a section of fancy parts as its called... and sometimes you find some amazing things... i scored a brooks team pro for $40 and a DA-7900 cassette for $20... even got a carbon easton seatpost for 10 bucks... gotta love a good deal

Do you mean the front of it should be pitched up higher?

I see what you mean. I was adjusting the position of it earlier.

yes. the saddle should be level to slightly angled up. make it more comfortable and also keep you from slipping forward

Looks like the handlebars may need to be rotated down as well. Hard to tell from pictures.

Nice bike. I have the same bike in black.

You know, I thought about that as I was taking pictures. I naturally stand on the left side of the bike so whenever I park it it is always with the drive side facing away.

I thought about doing flipping it around, and also doing some close ups, but then thought it might be a bit of overkill.

My early morning ride today was not with the new Roubaix, but my flat-bar Rapid. Damn cold. I didn't want to be on it for two hours not knowing if it's going to be comfortable. However, after coming back I did take the Roubaix out for a short 15-minute spin. Man, what a difference! The riding position is obviously much lower and sitting like feels fast, even when standing still. I don't know how I'll feel after two or three hours on the saddle.

The bike feels much 'twitchier', but maybe you could call it responsive handling. I'm guessing that it has a shorter wheel base than my Rapid 2. The overall ride feels absolutely smooth. I can't wait to take it out for a longer spin.
