If you don't mind a 15 to 20 min drive check out the Weston Flyers http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/westonflyers/. If you are looking for a very competitive ride, check out the Sheraton ride that starts at Flamingo and Sheraton Sat 8:00. A more relaxed ride is the Memorial group, but they have recenlty moved their start so you will have to ask around.

With all due respect to my Broward brethren, if you're going to be in Hollywood you will be better off biking in Dade County. The problem in Broward is that you have very few open stretches of road on which you can travel nonstop unless you are far west and there I've found the roads themselves to be less than ideal. The Key Biscayne loop is probably the best single route available in the Dade and Broward area. There is also the Black Creek - Homestead Bayfront Park loop although on some stretches on the latter route you also run into the same tarmac issues you do in west Broward in places.

Check out the Everglades Bike club website for more info and various rides including rides in Dade and Broward counties:

The Club was voted the "Best South Florida Bicycle Club of 2004" by Florida Sports Magazine in December 2004.

Not really. Depending on traffic it could be around 30 to 45 min.

What is the route for the Key Biscayne loop?

Usually most people start around the LeJeune Circle and go through the Grove (nice but a bit too close to cars for my taste) or South Gables then the Grove, along Main Highway to South Bayshore to the start of the Rickenbacker Causeway. You can take the Causeway nonstop to the residential area. No problems in the residential area but stop for red lights 'cause the gendarmes will stop you. Fortunately there are only two lights. Nice ride to the start of the Cape Florida park. If you pay $1.00 you have a nice ride through the park but you won't be averaging 20mph. On the way back make sure you turn right to do the Virginia Key route which takes you down to Jimbo's and back.

From the South Gables to the beginning of Cape Florida its about 32 miles. You have one large fairly steep bridge to make things interesting. You can double back on the causeway portion and make it a 45 mile run without getting bored. Lots of bikers and runners and you are well away from cars except for a couple of places. Beautiful water and landscape views for most of the way especially along the causeway.

If you are really interested let me know and I'll send you a map or let me know when you want to run it and I'll show you instead.

Totally agree with the above, Prob the only nice ride here in So Fla,though I've enjoyed west of the BIG Lake on Hiway 27 past Clewiston to hiway 74 west to Babcock, north to Arcadia east to 27. Or a nice ride is to circle the lake, Belle Glade to Belle Glade.I have a couple o places to set up my tent. Sometimes I ride to Key Largo, park my truk and ride south on the Keys Hiway, now that the time has changed makes an even nicer ride. Get up at 4AM get to Key L about 1 1/2 hours later and its, "all by myself". Hate the ride back though
Riding in Broward is the pits. I called the mayors office in FTL to get the "lanes"?on Bay View Dr marked with bike logos, was told, "Um. yeh, its in the works".Yeh as Flo would say. "When donkeys fly"
