Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weekend Cycling/Exercise/Sports Reports - Sep 27/28

It's the weekend again!! Tell us about your cycling adventures this weekend. Tell us about your other sports as well. Are you in training for something? Do you have a goal you're aiming toward? Have you got some beautiful autumn or spring photos taken while cycling or participating in other sports?

Thursday (NA time) or Friday (AU time) ... we did a walk around Harrison Hot Springs in BC and then up to Bridal Falls. The hike up there had me huffing and puffing a bit!!

Friday (NA time) or Saturday (AU time) ... it rained most of the day, so we headed to the local fitness centre and swam 500 metres in the pool.

Saturday -- Rowan and I got out for a 41.15 km ride in lower mainland BC on our new Bike Fridays! It is a beautiful day out there ... sunshine and warmth. And we really enjoyed riding the Bike Fridays. I know I'm finding mine a very easy and comfortable bicycle to ride.

Anyone else riding this weekend?

Tomorrow, I am home tomorrow and have a ride set up with some friends. Can't wait.

We woke up this morning in Roche Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington. We did a two-week cruise on a chartered powerboat with another couple. Fourteen boats & 50 people in total. We went from Anacortes, WA to the San Juan & lower Gulf Islands, including Victoria & Vancouver, BC. We are back in Anacortes, WA & fly home tomorrow. Where are you guys?

Ganges, BC

Telegraph Harbor, BC

Oven Island, BC

Beautiful photos!

We're in the Chilliwack area ... just east of Vancouver, BC.

I rode just over 22 miles in under 90 minutes for an average rate of 15.29mph. It was slow, but I'm still loosi g weight and have been riding only 4 months.

The ride took me over the local causeway, to Hutchenson Island, north to the nuclear power plant and back.

Rode a quite tough 300k brevet on Saturday (and a little of Sunday).
Got in just under the time limit.
Rain for the last 40km but otherwise good weather.
Really need to spend less time off the bike.

Waihi Gold Rush by znomit at Garmin Connect - Details

Forty two miles on our local shop ride, 3500' of climbing on Saturday. Then five miles of hiking with my wife on local trails. Awesome weekend.

Wow, I have been thinking of setting a speed goal for Jan, a flat fast century. But I was thinking 3000 ft would be flat. I'm not sure I could manage to find 100 miles with only 1000 ft elevation gain out here.

But still, you did yours at an impressive pace. Nice.

Saturday was my usual ride around south Tampa. The most interesting part was about half way through the ride I heard this high “Ahhhhh” sound coming from somewhere. I’m looking all around and saw a lady wearing headphones at the bus stop singing Led Zeppelins’ “Whole Lotta Love” really loudly. When she noticed me she got embarrassed and stopped. I guess with the headphones on she didn’t realize how loud she was. On Sunday I went out to Thonotosassa for 40 miles. It was a soggy ride. Late September in FL we are supposed to be drying out, but this year it is more like July with some heavy afternoon rains. Some of the streets were flooded and the rivers and creeks I passed were running high.

Great pictures as always...The orca was awesome, never seen one.

Great job on the long rides...perhaps one day but for now I'll stick with my 40 milers...they are doable in a reasonable time and don't need extras (like food, water and bathroom stops )
