Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's all good, thanks for the input.

It is referred as a fastback seat stay. The wiki attributes it as a Cino Cinelli invention in the late 1940s but in reality it was a standard feature on Umberto Dei in the 1930s, possibly in the 1920s.

And thank you for the compliment.

Yes, I'm familiar with the term, but more accustomed to seeing it executed like this:

Yours is distinctively much further down the stays and below the top of the seattube. I've seen many fastbacks, but none like that! Dopissimo!

Ritchey developed a new tube set for the Road Logic, to complement the specific geometry of that frame, right? Ritchey's have long been known for their resilient, supple, ride characteristics. I've been eyeing an older 650b MTB frame at my LBS, in that trademark red/white/blue fade paint job. Only thing that's bothering me about that one, though, is that the cable stops are on the top of the top tube, instead of the side, which irks me. But, that's another thread, in another forum...I'd certainly like to add a Road Logic to the stable, though, too!

Hey, thank you! I've got long legs and a short torso, the bike a long TT and short ST, so the setup is a little atypical, but it performs so damn well for me.

Just be clear with them about the vintage. The '12 is pictured, but I'd be kind of surprised if there were still '12s available to them; Breezer only made 150 units, with 149 going to the global market. Joe Breeze kept #150 for himself.

The '13s and '14s are a little different (e.g. integrated seat binder rather than collar) and have different paint. The '12, which Breezer called their 35th anniversary bike, had a deeper blue, darting on seat tube and fork legs, and gold paint outlining (e.g. around Breezer lettering) which together give the bike a much more sophisticated look, IMO.

Yet, if you just want a killer steel ride, I don't think you could do better spending $700 on a new frame than on the Venturi, irrespective of model year.

Have you checked out Soma's steel frames? Or Torelli?

I have several steel bikes but the newest is my 2006 Bianchi San Jose; a SS/FG bike. I like it a lot.

My 61cm Waterford RS-22 is lugged Reynolds 953 stainless, and the OS tubes combined with the relatively long chain stays give it a damn near perfect ride on multi-day, 100 miles/day credit card touring with my 6' 0" 185 pound carcass in the saddle. Frame weight is 1650g.

You are comparing a endurance road bike with a track bike. Look into stiff frames like the SST, noah, or s5

I have a fuji connoisseur built up like a poor mans ritchey... its reynolds 725 but I don't have anything else to compare it to besides an aluminum frame from performance. The frame is pretty light. The fork/stem that came with it was really flexy, has been replaced with a carbon fork w/alu steerer, modern controls and am happy with it.

OP, you sound like you know what you want in a frame, so why not go full custom? A good framebuilder can tune a steel frame to the exact characteristics you're looking for. I would never buy high-end off-the-rack steel when I can get something tailored to me for not that much more money.

Custom is a crap shoot. Who says you and the builder are speaking the same (cycling) language. There is clearly some fuzziness around OP's description of what he is looking for. I wouldn't bet that can be converted into the "exact characteristics" he wants. Much better for him to try out readily available frames and pick the one that feels best. At least if he can't find any of a brand to try out, it is likely an online retailer would accept a return of a stock bike within a defined period for reason of incompatibility.

No, where did you get that? Just stating that I've had steel bikes. I also had a steel 83 Fuji, and old steel 92 Trek.

+1. Seems like there's a lot of uncertainty, even on pricing; between Pegoretti and decent there are a whole lotta dollars.

Here's the list I was wanting. I'm looking into a custom build. Here's what I want... I want a steel frame road bike, that can handle up to, at least a 32c tire for gravel, disc brakes, not worried about fenders or luggage rack brazons, not a relaxed geometry, but also not doing cries either, somewhere middle of the road. Threaded BB is preferred, a carbon fork, uses builder does his/her own very nice custom fork. Oh, and it will need to be custom painted House of Colors Sunset Kandy Tangerine Orange.

Nice list, but not comprehensive. Southwest Frame Builders in Dallas, TX is not on it, and I'm sure many others as well. This is a very good start, however. By the way, depending upon where in Arkansas you are, Southwest in Dallas may be a good choice for you. When I had them repaint my 1990 Romic 531 frame, I drove up from Houston for the day to drop the frame off and discuss all the details with them. That was very effective toward getting what I wanted. See below:
