Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I agree. Thank you for your opinion, it is valued. It's good to know they can be removed in case of future fading.

Sun CR18 rims with Formula hubs. That old school look and a nice ride. I put these on one of my SS/FG conversions.

For a bit more, one could order some Velocity A23 rims with Shimano 105 hubs. I used Velocity Aerohead rims on my Bianchi. They are nice, too.

I'm enjoying my Fiamme rims with Campagnolo hubs on my '84 Pinarello. The tires cost more than they did but worth the price, IMO.

For you Guys using the Vuelta Corsa Lites, any thought on limits for rider weight. Vuelta Doesn't publish any.

I've been running a pair for a few years now, I've got about 12,000 miles on mine without needing a single truing or repair, although the freehub body had to be replaced (part was $50 from Vuelta) because the cassette I had on it was gouging it to bits. The freehub is soft aluminum and the cassette was Ultegra 6700, for what that's worth. I've got a SRAM cassette on there now and I've had better luck with the gouging.

As far as weight goes, I've fluctuated between 170 and 185 since I got the wheels, and I've never had any issues. I've raced on them many times, hit plenty of potoles, and commuted with a 20+ pound backpack without giving it a second thought. I'd imagine there must be an upper limit of body weight (Maybe 230 pounds? Just a guess), but I'm not approaching it so they've been great. I'd definitely recommend these wheels, and I'd think that the newest versions would be wider rims as well which is nice for comfort.

I should also note that Nashbar is currently having a 21% off any single item sale (until tomorrow, I think). You could pick up a pair of Corsa SLRs for just under $200. A sub-1500 gram wheelset for that price ain't half bad! The Corsa Lites I have are even cheaper. The current graphics are much more understated than what I have on mine, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on your preferences.

Cartridge replaceable bearings should be easier to replace than to clean/lube/set but mine are too new for that just yet. Nice wheels.

I haven't had to touch the bearings on mine despite 12,000+ miles, which includes a fair number of rain rides. They don't seem loose and they spin as freely as when new, so I'm not too concerned. I'll probably upgrade to something fancier before I ever have to replace the bearings.

+1 on Vuelta Corsa Lites. I emailed Veulta my weight and preferences (~200lbs at the time, endurance/club rider, happy to pay extra $$ for SLR or Superlite but valued reliability over the 100g difference) and they said to stick with the Corsa Lite as the right wheel for me.

I've done probably 4-5k miles on mine, and still excellent. Have done some minor truing twice, once a few hundred miles and once recently, but neither time was it really necessary...just doing a full cleanup of the bike and spent an extra 10 minutes getting everything just right.

A month ago I bought the SLRs. For the first few 100 miles they were great then they went out of true. Talked to Nashbar. They suggested I take them to a LBS to get trued. I did this but after a few hundred miles once again they were out of true. Talked to Nashbar about sending them back and getting the Lites however, she said the SLRs would be a better wheels for me do to my weight (230lbs). Since it had a higher spoke count. I am not convinced she is right. Received a new set of SLRs and put my first 50 miles on them this morning. Keeping fingers crossed I don't have to send these back.

I think you got some bad advice, or at least contrary to what Nashbar and Vuelta told me awhile back. The spoke count is exactly what I brought up when I asked about the Vuelta wheelsets, and the SLRs use narrower spokes than the Corsa Lites which is why, even with the higher spoke count, they weren't suggested to me. And I was only 200lbs at the time and heading down. Both advised me to go with the Corsa Lite, even Nashbar who would get more revenue if I bought the SLR. I hope your new set of SLRs hold up. They shouldn't go so far out of true in the first few hundred miles that you must have an LBS true them. Minor out-of-true happens to many of the best/most expensive wheelsets in the first few hundred miles, but it should never be so much that a few 1/4 - 1/2 turn adjustments doesn't put everything right. Also, regarding flex, even at 190-200lbs and climbing hard out of the saddle, I can't flex the Corsa Lites enough to ever touch my brake pads. See how the SLRs compare on your next ride.

+3 on the corsa lites. i prefer them over the mavic ksyrium elites and giant psl-0 wheelsets. took the decals off mine, but probably wouldn't do so if i bought a set today--like the new graphics.

Lazya$$...looks like the Aeromax wheels might very well be the same as the Vuelta Corsa Lite. Difference would be having Vuelta and/or Nashbar stand behind them (they're down in southern California) vs. Aeromax which is much harder to get any info on them as a company.

fried bake - met a guy on a ride that laughed when he saw I had the Corsa Lites. He had broken spokes three times in three months on his Ksyrium Elites and was just fed up with them. Corsa Lites as a pair cost less than he had spent on just the front wheel. Quick question - how did you get the graphics off? I'm thinking of stripping some/all of them off mine.

From what I was able to find out, I guess they use the Vuelta hubs. I may just order a set since I have a 10% discount coupon. $183 for a 1560g wheelset ain't bad.

+1 on the mavic aksiums. They seem bomb proof. Got them on my road bike and then swapped them out and put them on my CX and they've held up very well.

Seems I may be borderline on the Corsa Lites due to weight (currently 220), though i will be losing. Other option to comsider is BWW Pure Aero performance level $265 delivered w coupons. Still hard to Beat the Cora Lites at the current $180.00

I had a pair of the corsa lites for a few months, that bike was stolen so Im not sure how long they would have lasted.

But, I was not overly impressed with them. They look great, but the spokes and hub seemed to be lower quality. I had to tighten and re-grease my rear hub within a month. They are still a great value for the price.

Definitely nice, but not really nice.
